The AKG C414 XLII Muti-Pattern Microphones are designed for the recording of lead vocals and solo instruments in studio and on stage. This stereo pair is ideal for stereo recording applications and offers a choice of nine polar patterns for the perfect sonic capture in every situation!

The AKG C414 XLII Muti-Pattern Microphone offers the classic C12 microphone sound. A peak hold LED displays even the shortest overload peaks. For live sound applications and permanent installations, all controls can easily be disabled for trouble-free use. The C414 XLII version differs from the C414 XLS version in one major respect – the capsule. The AKG C414 XLII's slight presence boost and impressive spatial reproduction are both similar to the legendary AKG C12 microphone from 1953.

A studio standard. Can be used on literally everything. Also, it is very versatile. Every studio needs a pair of these. Granted, they don't sound like Neumann 184s but they get the job done.

What We Think

Do you love the idea of a neutral, legendary workhorse microphone with tons of potential use-cases, yet find yourself underwhelmed with the neutrality of the AKG C414 XLS?  Then this microphone might be for you.  The XLII goes back to its roots with the original AKG C12, where a brighter, airy top-end was dominant, and this microphone comes full circle.  I love this microphone as an alternative to the XLS because it still has the same rugged reliability and mid range neutrality, yet it breathes a little life into the top end without the need for additional EQ or processing.  If you're primarily using acoustic guitar or acoustic vocals, but want the option for other sound source recording as well, this lift may provide just the right touch of brightness to make this microphone your go-to option!
