Heil HDK-7 Drum Microphone Kit

The Heil HDK-7 Drum Microphone Kit is the ultimate realization of what tons of great engineers have discovered over the last few years - Heil mics sound fantastic on drums! Search no further for your ultimate drum sound, live or in the studio.

No longer do you have to piece together your drum mic-ing solution from the Heil line: Heil has designed new microphones based on their greatest microphones and put them all together with new drum mounts in what is sure to be the final word in drum microphone kits.

Bob Heil and his team have developed a new tom microphone (PR-28) and a new kick drum microphone (PR-48) to compliment the PR-30B; an adaptation of the original PR30 - what has become realized as one of the best sounding all around dynamic mics is also a fantastic overhead microphone. A pair of PR-22 mics round out this kit for snare and hi-hat. One of the best things about this kit (aside from the sound), is the new and innovative tom mounting system which mounts to BOTH the hardware, outside of the rim, or the top of the rim!

A great alternative to the standards..

Posted by Grant Beachy on Mar 3rd 2011

I'm getting into my 5th year of recording full-time and I was ready for a change. After hearing the pr48 in a live setting I was completely impressed, and willing to take a chance on the whole kit. I love the idea of dynamic overheads as well, so that made this kit an attractive option.

There isn't enough room for a in-depth review, but here is what you can expect. Amazing pattern control, solid natural sounds, and versatility. I loved all the mics for their applications minus the pr22 for snare top. it was a bit bright, and the output was too high for my api's to handle with loud drummers. It does make a fantastic vocal mic though. The pr30b also might be my new favorite mic for guitar cabs.

Overall, a solid value and a great addition. I've overdosed on their usage for my last two records, and they have done what I was hoping they would. You'll hear them a lot more on my recordings.
