The AKG C414 XLS/ST Multi-Pattern Microphones (Stereo Pair) offer a choice of nine polar patterns for the perfect sonic capture for every application. The AKG C414 XLS maintains the sonic character of the legendary C414 B-ULS, the most popular AKG C414 version since 1971. Engineered for highest linearity and neutral sound, it has been the most versatile large-diaphragm microphone for decades.

    For a punchy, usable pop acoustic guitar these are great. Put them on a stereo bar as a spaced pair, position to taste and they're superb.

There's a reason you'll find at least a pair of the AKG C414 XLS microphones in most major studios today - and it's by far the main reason I love this microphone so much.  Neutrality and a smooth top end.  The AKG C414 XLS isn't designed to be stand-out, special, or full of character.  It's designed to be a neutral workhorse, capable of a multitude of environments, both loud and silent, and from virtually any angle of attack.  You let the microphone do the capturing, then you add the color you want with your own hardware making this the perfect microphone for drum overheads, room capture, or just about anything you want to dial in the saturation and EQ exactly to your liking.  Sometimes we don't need the microphone to give us any tone at all.  We just want a neutral source that's reliable and versatile, and let the mixing process shape the rest!
