PreSonus TubePre V2 Tube Preamp
The PreSonus TubePre V2 Tube Preamp is a versatile preamp with impressive dynamic range and detail. With separate instrument and microphone inputs, the TubePre V2 is a handy DI box for guitars and bass. It proves that dynamic preamps can come in small packages!
The PreSonus TubePre V2 Tube Preamp is a compact and affordable, professional tube preamplifier that employs the PreSonus' popular XMAX Class A solid-state preamp, followed in the signal path by a 12AX7 vacuum-tube stage. A dual-servo (no capacitors) gain stage lets you boost the signal to smoking hot levels without significantly increasing noise. Discrete components and high-voltage operation offer dynamic range and detail not found in other single-channel tube preamps in its class. Built tough enough for serious gigging, the PreSonus TubePre V2 is a great choice for guitars and microphones alike.
From Gentle Warmth to Total Fuzz with the Twist of a Knob
XMAX microphone preamps deliver incredibly high headroom, deep lows, smooth highs, and a rich overall sound garnering them rave reviews from users and the media alike. The 12AX7 vacuum tube that follows the XMAX in the PreSonus TubePre V2 was hand-selected and carefully tested for electrical conformity and freedom from microphonics. Twist the Drive saturation control to add the “color” that only a hand-selected 12AX7 can deliver — from gentle warmth to total fuzz.
A Versatile Tool that’s Built to Travel
Housed in a rugged case that is built to travel, the PreSonus TubePre V2 rear panel sports separate unbalanced, ¼” instrument and balanced, XLR mic inputs and unbalanced ¼” and balanced XLR line outputs. Use it as a straight-up tube preamp or a dynamite direct box (DI) for guitars and basses. PreSonus has provided all of the extras you need, including a highpass filter, phantom power, polarity reverse, and a backlit VU meter. Yet with all its features, it’s small enough to carry almost anywhere—or simply screw-mount it to a standard rack tray.
Great Sound, Live or in the Studio
Live or in the studio, the PreSonus TubePre V2 is a great-sounding tool you’ll use on a variety of sources. Add just the right amount of tube distortion to guitars, basses, and mic signals. Go lightly for gentle warmth or go all-out for solid crunch—it’s up to you.

got this to complement the isa1 and auteur... always interested in seeing the new stuff plus it was cheap as hell and i needed more pres for the drums... anyway i found this comparing to stuff a lot more expensive.... not much color to the sound just beautiful god given gain... pair it with an st55 or an aphex 215 and you got yourself a great recording setup for anything from acoustic to guitar cabs (aphex sounds especially nice on hardcore, the low end just bumps) the st55 is even better than my k5 for hiphop but can't touch the sparkly notes needed for jazz and rnb... just remember you will never find a unit that does everything well just work at it and check gearslutz.com... anyways i recommend this for anybody looking for a pre and doesn't want to spend more than 5, because pretty much anything under about a grand sounds the same (maybe expect the arts, which are pretty good to my ears with switched tubes)
Never worked with pre-amps so don't know if it's technically good or not. What I do know is that the customer service here at FEA is excellent. I explained my current set up, what I was thinking of getting and asked for advice on the best way to go. Ryan explained why in the context of my current set up, he considered this particular unit more suitable to something (more expensive) I had in mind and I believe he has steered me in the right direction with this purchase.
That's the word that came to mind when I played around with this little Pre. It's tone = YUCK. If you want a cheap little starved-plate tube Pre (which is what this is), go with the guys who started the whole thing, ART. The cheapest ART Tube MP will blow this thing out of the water. I'm not a Presonus hater either, I own a number of Presonus outboard pieces & even use Presonus's Studio One Pro as my primary DAW. Presonus just could've done better on this one.
This little preamp has worked very good for me in the past 2 years. Gives a nice character to your mics or instrument. I like the fact that is very simple, has everything you really need for a preamp, it's very solid and the tube sounds great. I can tell the difference between my interface preamp and this one. For the price, in my opinion is the best. You can always change the tube if you don't like the one that comes with it or if you want to try new sound.
I recommend it.
