The Oktava MK-012-01 HyperCardioid Microphone offers a natural, tight, and detailed character with amazing off-axis rejection, ideal for film dialogue, foley, ENG, and interviewing - as well as drum overheads, acoustic guitar, and piano. Hand made in Tula Russia, this studio workhorse was designed with solid electronics and modular parts, giving you the ability to configure the MK-012-01 to your unique recording application. This stealthy black version fades into the background on stage, on camera and in the studio.

The Oktava MK-012-01 mic is the most recognizable and well-regarded model in the Oktava lineup. It is a compact, high quality, small diaphragm microphone featuring a hypercardioid capsule. The MK-012-01 (hypercardioid) offers a smooth response with a slightly enhanced detail in the upper mid, which provides an accurate and musical character for all sound sources. The small size of the microphone provides easy positioning, even in tight spaces. Designed to be modular, you can easily swap out the capsule and pad, making this mic a versatile powerhouse in the recording studio. The included -10 dB pad is ideal for high SPL environments, making the MK-012 perfect for drum overheads, snare drum, hand percussion, guitar cab, and more. Optional Omni and Cardioid capsules are available separately or included in the MK-012-02 and MK-012-03 Microphone Sets.  Whatever you configuration may be, Front End Audio is here to help you build your Oktava microphone system.

    This mic is awesome. I love it for indoor dialogue and I can even use it as a stream microphone and get very natural sound. I love the hypercardiod capsule - really helps my voice separate from my mix.

    Amazing price point, great build. I've been very happy with the results while using this mic for booming dialogue indoors on a pilot for the last three weeks.

    Price is great for the quality of the mic. Used it boom dialog indoors. Worked well. Best to use the -10 plug to help with low end boom handling noise. Not Schoeps sound quality but I did not pay $1,900 bucks for the Oktava. Great for low budget productions.

    Excellent microphone. Great for studio sound applications, but even more so for location sound. The hyper cap has a very forgiving pickup pattern for a boom operator with great clarity if one has the right protection over it.

    Mic sounds awesome, and cheapest place on the internet by a lot! Can't wait to shoot my film with it! Customer service was awesome as well. They accidentally sent me the wrong capsule but exchanged it quickly with no issues. Super friendly, will buy from again.

The Oktava MK-012-01 HyperCardioid Microphone has been a go-to tool for us for close to 20 years now, and it’s earned that status the honest way—by consistently delivering. While in the studio, the MK-012 platform has shown up on everything from acoustic guitars and other stringed instruments to drum room and overhead duties, thanks in large part to its fast, articulate transient response. It’s one of those mics you keep reaching for because it’s dependable, musical, and just flat-out works. What really sets the MK-012-01 Hypercardioid apart is how focused it is. The pickup pattern is tight and laser-like, with a subtle lift in the upper mids that helps sources speak clearly without sounding hyped. That makes it especially useful in noisy environments, which is exactly why this capsule has long been a favorite for dialogue work in ENG and film. You can really hone in on the source while rejecting everything you don’t want creeping into the take. Add in the tunable proximity effect and excellent off-axis rejection, and you’ve got a small diaphragm condenser that punches way above its weight. And as a bonus for broadcast and film work, the non-reflective black finish keeps the mic visually invisible on camera—because the only thing you want noticed is the performance, not the microphone.
