Avenson Audio IsoDI Direct Box

The Avenson Audio IsoDI Direct Box flat out sounds fantastic, with its superhero alter-ego being an ultimate solver of audio problems. Combine this with it's super small footprint, and the Avenson Audio IsoDI makes for an must-have for the gigging musician or serious audio engineer of both studio and stage.

Building on the circuitry of the SmallDI, the IsoDI adds two optional isolation stages. The main signal path is still a clean, wide bandwidth transformerless FET amplifier, but the power is generated with an isolated DC to DC converter so that you can have true ground isolation and still run the IsoDI on phantom power.

The IsoOut jack can be a buffered, transformer isolated output to feed amplifiers or other inputs that can compromise the performance of the main signal path if connected in parallel. Now there is a way to get a clean DI signal even when there is bad stage power that causes the amp to buzz from light dimmer hash!

The switchable IsoOut / Parallel jack give you the flexibility to configure the jack as a summed input, a parallel connected output, or a transformer isolated output.

All of this in a rugged palm sized aluminum extrusion that makes it easy to toss into your gig bag or pack into a road case.

Avenson Audio IsoDI Direct Box Features

  • Clean Instrument Sound
    • The IsoDI has a high input impedance so that it doesn't load down passive instruments. The main signal path is also transformerless to give the ultimate transparent tone.
      • Connect instrument to Input
      • Connect XLR to phantom powered preamp input
  • Noisy Stage Ground
    • Badly wired stages are pretty common. Light dimmer hash and other noises are coming out of the amp before you even plug into it. The IsoDI's IsoOut feature can keep these noises out of the DI feed.
      • Connect instrument to Input
      • Connect XLR to phantom powered preamp input
      • Connect the amp to the IsoOut Jack
      • Push in the IsoOut/Parallel button
  • Two Amplifiers
    • Setting up a couple of amplifiers in the studio can be a great way to test out different tones, but often just turns into a mess of ground noise. The IsoDI can help by isolating one amp from the other.
      • Connect instrument and one amp to the Input with a Y-Cable
      • Connect XLR to phantom powered preamp input
      • Connect the other amp to the IsoOut Jack
      • Push in the IsoOut/Parallel button

What We Think

We LOVE the Avenson IsoDI. This little guy fits in your pocket and totally sounds like you carried it in on a forklift. In fact we always loved Avenson's Small DI, but it just doesn't work for anyone playing through an amp or who needs a post-DI tuner output. Thanks to it's very high input impedance, the IsoDI simply sounds fantastic. There's no loading down of passive instruments, dulling their sound, and its transformerless design ensures a very transparent signal to the mic preamp. However, the IsoOut is transformer coupled to eliminate grounding issues caused by bad stage wiring, etc. So, the IsoDI is a great problem solver and a boon to any traveling musician or FOH mixer looking to take their acoustic guitar or bass sounds to the next level without breaking the bank.

bought this on the recommendation of Chris Koltay, an engineer friend. got the DI promptly after ordering. have used one before in live settings, currently using it for recording bass guitar. very pleased with it. compact size and a full, clean signal.
