The Austrian Audio OC16 Microphone is an extremely flexible all-round mic that and can be used on a wide variety of instruments: From drums to electric and acoustic guitars, pianos, wind and string instruments to vocals.

With the OC16, Austrian Audio introduces a brand-new microphone in the “Open Condenser” large-diaphragm series equipped with Open Acoustics technology. The transparent and natural sound of OC microphones, which has been highly praised by the press and users, is the result of the combination of the patented CKR capsule and the “Open Acoustics” design approach developed by Austrian Audio.

    I recently purchased this microphone, and let me say that this the best in class hands down compared to other microphones in the same price range… sounds good on EVERYTHING, especially vocals and acoustic guitar, as far as vocals are concerned, this can be used on any type of voice, it’s versatile in that regard… no other microphone at this price can beat it, highly recommended!

The Austrian Audio OC16 is one of those microphones that immediately feels like a smart buy. While using it in the studio, it quickly proved to be a great bang-for-the-buck large-diaphragm condenser. That Austrian-made capsule delivers plenty of detail and air up top, but it’s balanced by a nice sense of fullness and low-mid weight that keeps things grounded and musical. There’s also a subtle smoothing quality to the OC16 that makes it easy to work with. It gently masks some of the harder edges, slightly scoops where needed, and adds a signature character that feels intentional rather than generic. We were especially impressed with it on drum overheads and acoustic guitar, where that balance of clarity and body really shines. For its price point, the OC16 punches well above its weight — it sounds good, feels thoughtfully voiced, and is tough to beat if you’re looking for a condenser that brings both character and versatility without breaking the bank.
