The Soyuz Microphones 013 FET Microphone features a proprietary toroidal transformer and extremely low harmonic distortion, providing a rich and beautiful sound that is perfect for even the most delicate and dynamic sound sources.

The Soyuz Microphones 013 Microphone is baed on the same capsule as the Soyuz Microphones SU-011 tube microphone but features a different FET preamp. With over a year year of research and development, the folks at Soyuz have worked very hard to develop their own transformer, which gives the SU-013 a rich and beautiful sound. As with all their microphones, the 013 is 100% handmade in the Soyuz facility in Russia. The Soyuz Microphones 013's classic internal transformer design creates a detailed sound that is robust in the lower frequencies, rich in the midrange, and silky smooth in the upper register.

    Transformative on Acoustic Instruments
    Jordan

While this review overall will be glowing, I'll speak to some areas where you might want to look at other options. As a full-time producer of a variety of genres (country, folk, americana, rock, etc) a lot of acoustic instruments are used in the songs I make. I had head great things about the entire Soyuz lineup but someone at some point recommended I check this mic out. Other than hearing samples online I purchased without any prior experience. This mic took me to a 95% finished acoustic guitar sound without any EQ/compression. You can thin it out for dense mixes of course, but when looking for a complete sonic representation with a velvety smooth and slightly accentuated pick attack I have yet to find anything that can compare. Mandolin, Violin, Parlor guitars all elevated by this mic. One instrument I have found there may be better options for is banjo. I feel like while the 100 - 400Hz is beautiful and massive on this mic, you do need to be careful with proximity effect. If there's too much of that frequency range coming off the instrument (applies to acoustics too of course) it can start to become overwhelming pretty quick with this mic. In a good environment however that should mostly be manageable. Still when tracking banjo I tend to prefer other options. All in all an amazing mic and achieves results you could never get with a KM184 and EQ.

    polished warm sound

The 013 fet however nice on acoustics and clarinet lives on my center drum crotch mic! not as an effect but as a full and finished sounding mono mic. No compression just straight into a clean pre. You have to hear it to understand.
