pretty good mic
Dec 9th 2011I have used this on vocals primarily. It provides a nice full sound. Its sounds pretty neutral which is good for some applications. The variable patterns are nice options to have available. The mic is well built, comes with a shock mount, looks like front ends kit comes with a little more.

decent mic, but nothing special
Sep 27th 2010Overall i would say i was a little disappointed with the NT2a. I bought the NT2a to be an all purpose studio workhorse. For my taste, i think this mic sounds a bit bright and thin. It doesn't sound bad, i just think there are much better options out there for the price. The nice thing about the mic is the different polar patterns included for the price.

Warm, clean, and sturdy
Jun 23rd 2010This is a classy-sounding, classy-looking, well-made mic. It's nice and heavy, the various switches don't produce any mechanical noise, and it's quiet-as-a-whisper. The cable fits in nice-n-snug for no hum and a clean signal, as is always the case with Rodes. It provides "big classy sound" on every source. You'll definitely want to use a pop-filter for your vocals with this one though. This one won't handle the pops well at all. To keep the price reasonable, this doesn't come with a shockmount and includes a simple vinyl bag rather than a goofy suitcase.

Rode NT2-A
Jun 12th 2010The best all around mics you can get for the money. I have paid through the nose for lots of mics, but these get used in my studio every day. Excellent sound quality and built like artillery shells. If you're running a budget studio, pay a little more for a pair of these and you won't be sorry. If you're a pro, get a pair and save the wear and tear on your best mics. These can take a beating and sound great doing it.

High End without the price tag
Mar 26th 2009Enough can't be said regarding the overall quality and value involved with this mic. It is not only superbly well constructed allowing for every detail, but it is one of the quietest mics (non existent self noise) of all the microphones available in the world bar NONE. Many like to say a microphone will have a "character". Well if this one has one, it is neutrality. Overall it does what it is told. If you get up front and personal with it you are rewarded with a rich warmth only a fine tube mic can equal. If you stand back a bit it still picks up the air of the singers vocal character. The variable pattern is a plus where as the build quality will take it and never let you down. If you want the performance of a $3000 Neumann and don't wish to lay out the cash, this mic will get you there nicely. Having owned several Neumann's and AKG's top mics I feel I can say that without hesitation.
