Built around a pair of genuine 88R microphone preamps with Marinair transformer-coupled inputs, the 88M combines premium analog recording paths with reference-grade conversion, expandable ADAT I/O, professional monitoring, and flexible hardware integration. Whether you’re tracking vocals, instruments, or an entire expanded setup, the 88M delivers the punch, clarity, depth, and musical character that have made Neve consoles fixtures in world-class recording studios. At the heart of the Neve 88M are two analog preamp channels derived from the renowned 88R console. Each channel accommodates microphone, line, or DI signals, with the analog inputs passing through Marinair transformers for authentic Neve transformer character. Balanced insert send and return connections make it easy to integrate compressors, equalizers, and other analog processors while tracking, while the always-active insert sends can also provide direct analog outputs ahead of the A/D converters. Current-production 88M units manufactured after January 2026 add DAW digital input routing, allowing previously recorded mono or stereo tracks to be sent through the 88M preamp transformers and insert loops. This turns the interface into a convenient hardware-processing bridge for adding analog character or incorporating outboard gear during mixing. Despite its compact footprint, the 88M can operate as a 10x10 audio interface when its onboard analog I/O is combined with eight channels of ADAT optical input and output. Dedicated balanced monitor outputs are controlled by an 88RS-style monitor control, while an independent professional headphone amplifier provides plenty of headroom for critical tracking and playback. Latency-free monitoring options simplify overdubbing and recording sessions, and premium AD/DA conversion helps preserve detail throughout the signal path. With USB bus power, rugged construction, and a portable desktop format, the Neve 88M is equally comfortable anchoring a professional project studio or traveling as a high-quality mobile recording interface.
