A precise microscope for your mix
Aug 31st 2014I've read about how these simulate real world listening systems. The opposite is true: the vast majority of monitors use a bass resonance mechanism (porting, passive radiators) which artificially raises the level of the low frequency content at the expense of time domain response. This is just how consumer equipment (including some earbuds these days) functions. So the Mixcubes do not simulate that time-smeared, resonance-enhanced bass response of real world listening systems. Instead you get superb time domain response and no phase interaction issues associated with two or more drivers. What low frequency info there is is accurate and not falsely extended. You get a narrow frequency range focused on the area where you should be spending 80 percent of your time. I now mix mainly on these and periodically check the very high and the low frequency content on bigger monitors and headphones, switching to one Mixcube in mono to really scope out any masking.

Great tool
Dec 8th 2011MixCubes are a great tool for tracking and mixing (even mastering on some aspects). This can give us a "home" like reference, so our mixes will travel amazing thru every kind of system, from high end to those worst mono PCs speakers. Amazing deal!
