This compact, self-powered reference monitor is designed to emphasize the critical midrange and help reveal balance problems that can hide on full-range studio monitors. By approximating the limited-bandwidth playback experience of car stereos, televisions, computers, portable speakers, and other everyday listening systems, MixCubes provide a practical reality check for mixing and mastering decisions. Avantone developed the active MixCubes around a proprietary 5.25-inch full-range driver featuring a cast aluminum frame and a specially crafted paper cone. The single-driver design eliminates a crossover from the signal path, providing a direct, coherent presentation that makes it easier to concentrate on vocals, guitars, snare, keyboards, and other mix elements occupying the all-important midrange. Each monitor also incorporates its own Class A/B amplifier, eliminating the need for an external power amp and making the system easy to integrate into professional studios, production rooms, and mobile setups.The sealed 18mm MDF enclosure is compact enough to fit where another conventional monitor system may not, while a recessed 5/8"-27 microphone stand mount provides additional placement flexibility. A neoprene pad built into the base helps provide a stable, acoustically isolated surface when the monitors are placed on a desk, console bridge, or other work surface.
