The Z&H Designs 1178 Stereo Peak Limiter delivers the aggressive punch, lightning-fast transient response, and unmistakable analog energy that made classic FET limiting a studio essential.

Designed for engineers who want powerful dynamics control with musical analog character, the 1178 combines vintage-inspired compression behavior with modern stereo operation for mix bus processing, tracking, mastering, and drum applications. Z&H Designs had unique access to the remaining stocks of discontinued components that were used in the original UREI 1178. Therefore, they were able to rebuild the signal processing chain 100%. Beyond the faithful replication, they added an onboard M/S-L/R switch, which is paired with separate attack & release controls. It also has a mix knob and a sidechain HPF - the must haves for today's production. Now its possible to utilise the compressing power of 1178 (which masters have been loving for decades), meanwhile apply a modern day workflow for modern genres. Built around a fully analog signal path, the 1178 excels at tightening mixes, controlling peaks, and adding forward presence without sacrificing impact or clarity. Its stereo architecture allows for cohesive imaging and balanced compression across the full mix, while the fast response characteristics make it especially effective on drums, guitars, vocals, and stereo program material that needs added excitement and control. Whether used subtly for glue and polish or pushed harder for aggressive analog attitude, the Z&H Designs 1178 Stereo Peak Limiter delivers boutique craftsmanship, rich harmonic detail, and classic FET-style dynamics processing for professional studio environments.
