The Z&H Designs Hopto Optical Compressor delivers smooth, musical dynamics control with the rich analog warmth and natural response that only a great optical compressor can provide.

Designed for stereo bus processing, tracking, mixing, and mastering applications, the Hopto combines classic opto-style compression behavior with boutique analog craftsmanship to create a compressor that feels both transparent and deeply musical. Hopto has its fully transistorised and all discrete circuitry based on the classical LA 2A/3A. Built around a fully analog signal path, the Hopto excels at adding glue, depth, and polish without crushing the life out of a performance. Its optical compression circuit reacts smoothly and organically to incoming material, making it especially effective on vocals, acoustic instruments, bass, stereo mixes, and program material that benefits from subtle dynamic control and enhanced tonal cohesion. The Hopto’s stereo architecture and mastering-friendly behavior make it an excellent choice for mix bus compression, while its analog circuitry preserves transient detail, dimensionality, and harmonic richness throughout the signal chain. Whether used for gentle leveling or more noticeable compression character, the Z&H Designs Hopto delivers refined analog control with a timeless studio sound.
