United Studio Technologies UT FET47 Microphone

The United Studio Technologies UT FET47 Microphone was painstakingly recreated with the utmost attention to detail as is a take on a very classic and much desired condenser microphone that has been used on countless hit records. Realism and thickness that is true to the vintage sonics — now at an affordable price.

It’s a labor of love. The United Studio Technologies UT FET47 represents several years of R&D, blood, sweat, and tears — all to capture the essence of one of the most beloved and classic solid state condenser microphones, and recreate it for the modern recordist. The sonic qualities you’ve been chasing have arrived — at an accessible price, with uncompromised quality. The United Studio Technologies UT FET47 features a custom Cinemag transformer, a custom Heiserman designed HZ-Series capsule, vintage polystyrene capacitors, and NOS (new old stock) FETs. Custom parts. Vintage new-old-stock parts. Mix that together with each microphone being built in the USA by actual recording engineers, and you have the UT FET47.

Featuring Heiserman Designed capsules
United worked with acclaimed capsule designer and manufacturer Eric Heiserman to develop a fresh take on the classic K47 German capsule design. Eric worked with the United team and the capsule manufacturer to develop a new capsule from the ground up. The capsule is open, articulate, and very three dimensional. This process required the analysis of everything from the sourced Mylar to the thread types of screws; but after many months and many iterations, they finally achieved what we had hoped for in the HZ-Series capsules.

While many of the HZ-Series design secrets will remain so, one superior attribute that canbe revealed is the use of dual, matched backplates. With the HZ-Series matching process, a far more accurate and consistent quality from side to side and capsule to capsule is achieved. The HZ-Series capsule is still manufactured only a few at a time, and stringently listened to and tested.

Custom Cinemag Transformers
United auditioned many recreations of the original German transformer; but quickly settled on an exceptional offering from Cinemag Transformers in California. Their answer to the classic part is truly a piece of art; a large, hefty transformer made from a ‘striped core’ of interleaved sets of high nickel and steel laminations, and wound to the specs of the original. It‘s humbucking design delivers clean, quiet operation. While they could have used smaller or less expensive transformer; they simply refused to compromise. They believe you’ll be glad they didn’t. This Cinemag transformer was truly everything they could hope for.

It’s not just another mic — it’s a United
Choosing the best microphone for your needs couldn’t be any more difficult these days. The sound.

I was looking to get Neumann U47 FET for my kick sound. And was sweating at the thought of spending 4000 dollars on mic (that I would use on a kick drum). Some how I ended up watching some videos on YouTube and got interested. At the same time I emailed an engineer for my favorite band (who I always ask for advice on gear all the time) and asked if he had tried this mic and his thoughts. He said he compared it to a vintage U47FET and that it was identical; and said that he needs to get a second one. Thats all I needed to hear (This guys records records professionally). So I ordered it and was amaze (In love with the kick sound). I haven't tried a vintage but this one gives me the sound. And it's only. 800+. Do not get discourage by the price , it's worth every penny and you won't regret it.

Will Never Leave My "Mic Locker" Again!

I had owned this microphone last year and used it for a couple of songs on vocals, acoustic guitar, and some percussion duties. Then G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) set in and I sold it, regretting it a couple of months later. It was a terrible mistake to sell this mic, so finally, I was able to purchase it again. I immediately put it to use for a song I was working on. It didn't miss a beat. I actually used it for sleigh bells and tambourine, which I usually don't do (I like using a ribbon for those high timbre instruments)., but this mic has an incredibly natural tone and very fast response (as well as very low self-noise), which made those percussion instruments sit in the mix without any post EQ whatsoever (I use a Klark Teknik EQP-KT and a 3A compressor into an RME interface) . The tone is natural, just how you want it to sound, kind of like using the best lenses for your camera - they properly interpret what you see and hear with minimal need to tweak afterwards. I'm just really happy, once again, to own this wonderful mic. I should've never sold it, and I'll never sell it again. Granted, it's not a mic that you'd use for everything (what mic is realistically), so choose what you think will work with it. When recording acoustic guitar (with another mic on the 14th fret), I placed it on the lower body facing towards the bridge a little, and it got the most natural tone I've ever gotten from any mic, ever. No Eq was needed, not even before the interface. I just spent some time placing it in just the right spot, and it took care of the rest. So few mics have the ability to do that - I always end up tweaking some frequency, but not with this mic. Would I recommend this mic? Abso-freakin-lutely. It's built to last for many, many years, and it delivers a natural tone in spades. Just don't sell it, then buy it again, like I did. Keep it!! :-)

    UT47 FET

Don’t let the price fool you. I’ve had everything from Flea to Upton and this can go up against the best of them. Very warm with slight presence as a u47 type mic should. Definitely worth way more.
