The Tube-Tech HLT2A Stereo Equalizer brings a refreshingly musical approach to analog EQ, combining traditional high and low shelving with passive filtering and an innovative T-filter that lets you reshape the tonal balance of an entire mix with remarkable speed.
Built around Tube-Tech's all-tube signal path and transformer-balanced I/O, the HLT2A is equally at home adding weight and openness to individual tracks, reshaping a drum bus, or giving a stereo mix the kind of broad, cohesive tonal adjustment that is difficult to achieve with conventional equalizers. Rather than approaching midrange equalization with a traditional boost-or-cut band, the HLT2A uses a passive T-filter that works like a tonal seesaw around a selectable center frequency. Turning the control clockwise boosts the upper frequencies while reducing the lower frequencies; turning it counterclockwise does the opposite. With selectable center frequencies of 0.5, 1, and 2 kHz, the T-filter makes it easy to shift a source toward greater presence and clarity or toward additional warmth and body without relying on narrow corrective EQ moves. Low and high shelving sections provide continuously variable ±12 dB adjustment across six selectable frequencies per band, while passive 6 dB/octave low-cut and high-cut filters give you additional control over the extremes of the spectrum. Each EQ section can be switched in or out, and the overall bypass removes the complete filter section while leaving the amplifier circuitry in the signal path. Fully floating input and output transformers, a tube-based push-pull amplifier, and an all-tube audio circuit outside of the power supply complete an equalizer designed for broad, intuitive tone shaping with classic Tube-Tech character.
How Does It Sound?
The Tube-Tech HLT2A marks a different approach to EQ’ing. It is a very powerful overall shaping EQ, yet extremely simple to operate. Simply put, the HLT2A will yield good results for basically any material and application, ranging from the demanding mastering engineer to the sound quality hungry project studio owner. The combination of Hi and Lo shelf and Lo/Mid frequency T just creates a ton of very nice EQ shaping possibilities!
