Combining Telefunken’s acclaimed Dynamic Series microphones with an additional M81-SH for expanded tom or instrument coverage, the DD5 is designed to capture powerful kick drums, articulate snares, punchy toms, and high-SPL percussion with clarity and precision. The DD5 centers around the M82 kick drum microphone, paired with an M80-SH for snare and three M81-SH microphones for toms, percussion, guitar cabinets, brass, or other demanding sources. Together, the microphones provide balanced attack, controlled low-end response, and excellent isolation that works equally well for live sound reinforcement and studio drum recording. The low-profile shell designs also make microphone placement easier in tight drum setups and crowded stages. The Telefunken Elektroakustik DD4 and DD5 Drum Mic Packs pack all of the powerfully smooth yet super-refined sound of Telefunken Elektroakustik's dynamic vocal microphone range into "shorty" bodies, and outfit them all with mounting hardware and right-angle XLR cables. The M80-SH with it's extended high-frequency focus, really brings the snare drum to life, where the darker, more milky sounding M81-SH attenuates the tizz and wash of crash cymbals, focusing in on the power of the toms. The M82 handles the kick drum admirably with it's unique shaping abilities. You really must hear these mics on drums. Once you do, you'll understand why the Telefunken Elektroakustic dynamics have come to represent the very cutting edge of moving coil microphone technology. And if you also need a pair of overhead microphones together with the dynamic close mics, Telefunken Elektroakustik has also released the DC6 and DC7 Drum Microphone Kits. These each build on the DD4 and DD5 kits (respectively) by adding a matched-pair of M60 FET Cardioid Small Diaphragm Condenser microphones.
