The Shure KSM42 is a premium side-address, large dual-diaphragm cardioid condenser microphone designed for critical studio vocal recording and high-level performance applications. Its dual-diaphragm capsule features a 1″ ultra-thin 24-karat gold-coated Mylar front diaphragm and a passive back diaphragm that together deliver exceptionally smooth proximity control and a broad “sweet spot” with a natural off-axis response.
In addition to its advanced capsule design, the KSM42 incorporates Shure's Prethos Advanced Preamplifier Technology for ultra-low self-noise, wide dynamic range, outstanding transient response and ultra-low distortion—ideal for capturing sophisticated, powerful and intimate vocal performances. KSM for the Win!
Jan 20th 2021I've had mine for over 10 years now, it was my first good mic and gateway into the world of condensers - and I still love it. I'll often turn to the KSM when micing a guitar cab or by the soundhole on an acoustic. It's warm and inviting, with a top-end that's bright but not too brittle. Great mic for a home studio enthusiast!
