The sE Electronics VR2-NG Active Ribbon Microphone brings the smooth, natural character that makes ribbon microphones so addictive while delivering the output, detail, and versatility needed for modern recording.

With its active electronics, extended 20 Hz to 18 kHz frequency response, and hand-crafted aluminum ribbon, the VR2-NG captures sources with rich body, open high-frequency detail, and a wonderfully musical response. From vocals and acoustic instruments to drum overheads, brass, strings, and screaming guitar cabinets, this is a ribbon microphone that refuses to be pigeonholed. At the heart of the VR2-NG is a hand-crafted 2.5 µm aluminum ribbon, carefully tensioned by sE Electronics' specialized technicians. Its unique ribbon design provides the smooth transient response and natural tonal balance associated with a quality ribbon microphone while extending the top end well beyond what many traditional ribbon designs offer. The active circuitry provides a healthy 14.1 mV/Pa sensitivity, making the VR2-NG well suited for quieter sources such as vocals, piano, acoustic guitar, and strings without demanding huge amounts of gain from your microphone preamp. The microphone requires standard 48V phantom power for operation. Versatility is one of the VR2-NG's biggest strengths. Its figure-8 polar pattern provides excellent rejection from the sides while capturing sound from both the front and rear, opening up plenty of options for room placement, ensemble recording, and creative microphone techniques. With a maximum SPL of 135 dB, it is equally comfortable in front of loud guitar cabinets, drums, brass, and other high-output sources. The rugged all-metal housing helps reject electrical interference, while the gold-plated XLR connector provides dependable connectivity for demanding studio and live applications. A custom shockmount makes positioning easy, whether you need the microphone centered normally, positioned close against a guitar cabinet or drum, or angled into a tight recording position.

    The perfect combination of value and performance

    I am extremely pleased with my sE Electronics Voodoo VR2 Ribbon microphone. It’s compact, yet powerful! I really love being able to get a smooth ribbon sound with extra gain from the phantom power. It translates a very detailed sound with great low end without sounding woofy. I’ve recorded a double bass with excellent results. I look forward to recording guitar cabinet and other acoustic instruments with this fantastic microphone. Well made, and I can’t believe the good price!
