The Samar MG32 Microphone is a end-addressed small diaphragm cardioid condenser microphone that features low noise, a smooth and very balanced response, low distortion and excellent low and high-end extension.

Don’t let the Samar MG32's compact size and modest price tag give you the wrong impression. Its is very high-quality original designs, featuring low noise, and a smooth and very balanced response, with low distortion, and excellent low and high-end extension. The Samar MG32 is an ideal solution for demanding professional engineers, studios, artists, as well as home recording enthusiasts, to make the highest quality recordings, especially in environments where the compact size of the microphone is of the essence. The microphone is built at the company’s Salt Lake City-based shop.

The MG32 is designed by the company’s founder Dr. Mark Fouxman. As with any Samar microphone, extraordinary attention was put into the shape of the body and its acoustical properties. An unusual, innovative, and optimized acoustical lens eliminates standing waves, reflections, and wave interference, and allows for minimal phase distortion anomalies along with excellent off-axis response. The MG32 uses the same capsule as Samar's highly acclaimed MG20. For low distortion, the highest possible sonics, sound quality, and years of dependability, the MG32 use the highest quality electronic parts, such as SMD Vishay-Dale resistors and through-hole Wima capacitors in the signal chain.

The Samar MG32 offers balanced, neutral sound, along with the excellent low-end response, and the non-harsh sonic nature on the high end, makes it suitable for a wide range of applications, such as pop, jazz, and classical piano, string instruments, brass instruments, acoustic guitars, drum overheads, percussions, room microphones, orchestra, and choir among other recording, broadcast, and classical music applications. It is especially suitable for environments where compact size is important. It is perfect for live sound reinforcement, concert recordings, drum and percussion sessions, and any place where a small unobtrusive footprint is needed.

Beautiful sounding mic with aluminum sputtered diaphragm (for fastest transients) and same capsule of the venerable MG20. I put a foam on it for vocals… wow… makes the Soyuz 011 and 013 FET sound mid-scooped. Sold them quick… Excellent low end and amazing mid detail and a sweet top end. The maker Mark Fouxman should be the audio innovation man of the year!

What We Think

The Samar MG32 is another one of those microphones that proves size really doesn’t mean much once the red light is on. While setting it up in the studio, it’s easy to underestimate just how much sound this little mic can deliver — and then you hear it on drums. Designed with drums front and center, the MG32 handles high SPL with ease and brings a thick, confident tone that immediately makes a kit feel bigger. Sonically, the MG32 has a noticeable fullness in the low mids and mids that gives it more meat than you might expect from a small-diaphragm condenser. It feels a bit like a more compact take on the MG20, but with extra weight where it counts. While tracking, we found it especially impressive on kick, floor toms, and spot-miking cymbals like hi-hats and ride, while still sounding excellent on snare and rack toms. Add in the super small footprint and side-address design, and placement becomes quick and painless — no mic-stand gymnastics required. Samar set out to make a killer drum mic, and the MG32 absolutely delivers.
