The Heritage Audio Herchild Next Gen 670N Stereo Tube Compressor brings the legendary sound of the Fairchild 670 into the modern era with expanded functionality, enhanced flexibility, and a dramatically more accessible price point.

Engineered from the ground up using the same NOS tubes and custom transformers found in the flagship Herchild 670, the 670N delivers the unmistakable warmth, weight, and musical compression that defined decades of hit records - now optimized for today’s studios and production workflows. With independent channel bypass, advanced sidechain filtering, stepped controls, and a redesigned output make-up gain stage powered by Heritage’s HA-880 transformer-coupled op-amp, the 670N adds unprecedented control while preserving the soul of the original classic. Carefully tuned attack and release times make the 670N even more flexible than the vintage design, while its progressive DC Threshold circuit seamlessly blends ratio and knee behavior - from silky, transparent compression to authoritative limiting. Mid/Side (LAT/VERT) capability, dual-mono or stereo operation, and continuously variable slope control give engineers deep sonic sculpting power. Built as an impressive 5U rackmount unit with stepped, hands-on controls for every parameter, the 670N is a true modern Vari-Mu masterpiece - delivering 150% of the original functionality at a fraction of the cost.

Differences Between the Herchild 670 and Next Gen 670N
The Herchild Next Gen 670N is a modern and more affordable version of the Herchild 670. The 670N was made to be as true to the original sound as possible - while keeping the price more attainable and also adding new functionality for modern productions. The 670N features four NOS military-grade 6BA6 tubes and six custom transformers (opposed to the 670 which features 22 Valves & 9 Transformers). There are new, modern features for this version including an output gain control as well as independent channel bypass for instant A/B comparison! LAT/VERT mode makes MID/SIDE processing possible. Also, the 6 Attack and Release times that have been adapted to today’s production needs, making it more flexible than the original unit. The side-chain options have also been updated. With the N670, you get close to the original sound of the classic unit with upgraded functionality. While with the 670, you get a more authentic design in terms of sound and functionality.
