What We Think
For a company predominantly known for their prestigious microphones, Earthworks also offers a few audio gadgets for specific instrumental niches; the Earthworks KP1 Kick Pad is one of them. Any drummer will agree that the kick drum is one of the most essential sounds to get right when recording in the studio or performing live. It truly has the ability to make or break a drum mix, if not an entire band’s mix. What we really appreciate about the KP1 is its versatility. This device not only can be used for a kick drum playing rock/metal music, but it can even come in handy for softer genres of music as well. Most will find that the Kick Pad is most helpful in live settings because time is typically of more essence. Its setup process is simple: connect it in between the XLR cable and the preamp. Thus, this can be extremely valuable to the drummer who has limited time to sound check for a live show. In a studio setting, this device thrives when a reliable, universal kick drum sound is desired.

Top service, easy payment and fast delivery. It is a pleasure doing business with Front End Audio.
Useful to get more quickly the sound on the kick drum for live gigs. But you don't need this pad for studio work.
The result is not as efficient with all microphones, I like it with D112 or RE20 but not with D6 for example.
This thing really lives up to the hype.I've used it in quite a few situations. For a live sound guy it's a great secret weapon and for recording it's a great help with hard to record kick drums, even cheap ones!
