What We Think
I have been a long time user of the Direct Sound headphones. I will not record drums or vocals without them. However, the two things that always kind of bothered me with them, were the comfort of wearing them for long periods of time, and the sound quality. After a few hours of wearing them, you kind of needed a break. They would not remain comfortable for long periods of time. With the improved "Plus Series" of headphones, that has greatly changed. The increased comfort level is beyond noticeable. They are simply much more enjoyable to wear. And then there is the sound quality. Now don't get me wrong, they have always sounded good. But, being a sealed isolation headphone, there is bound to be a build up of low mids and even low end. This was clearly a characteristic of the original designs. That though, is no more the case. The Plus Series sounds as clear, balanced, and clean as any other quality headphone in their price range - yet you still get the isolation you need. This is a stark contrast in performance, and a very very enjoyable one. It is such an improvement, that buying a new set was not only not out of the question, it was a must. The EX-25 Plus and EX-29 Plus are a big step forward for Direct Sound, and one that makes me a fan of theirs all over again. Simply great headphones, and a must for drums (and in my opinion, vocals as well).

If you need some serious isolation for players in your studio, or you're a drummer who needs his own set of cans for practicing with CD's or your iPod, these are a great choice. They block out the majority of ambient noise, and deliver a very high quality sound in the process. They can be a little tight on your head, but I've never found them to be uncomfortable after getting them adjusted.
The best sounding iso-phones I have used over a 40-year career. They are a tight fit, but comfortable. I recommend the EX-29's highly. Our older (several brands) iso-phones are now just spares.
These are the perfect headphones for recording drums. They do have excellent noise isolation and they provide a flat frequency response allowing you to hear the music clearly over the sound of your drums. I recommend these to anyone who is going to be recording music and is concerned about isolation.
It's OK, but you can but a much better isolation headphone for less money that will provide much better isolation than the EX-29
