ADK Custom Shop Berlin 47-T-FET Microphone

The ADK Custom Shop Berlin 47-T-FET Microphone is an electric sounding mic. There is a nice energy in the upper mids that brings to life brass and woodwind instruments, as well as steel stringed acoustics, cymbals, and works very well with Tenor vocalists.

The ADK Custom Shop Berlin 47-T-FET Microphone is based on a unique FET circuit that saturates gradually (unlike most condenser microphones which tend to clip abruptly). Key to the Tonality - a Belgian-American-Australian-Designed Capsule, British Oxford Transformers, Hi-End Phillips Norelco Uber-FET. Manufactured with Hi-Fi Methods and Materials, including a $6 Resistor! It took three microphone experts including a PhD in Physics, a Design Genius in Belgium and a 40 year-old Mic Locker to create it! Two-Way Attenuation Pads & Two Way HP Filter to enable end-user to tailor the dynamic behavior of the microphone and create new textures, with rarely the need for outboard processors or even EQ. The Berlin 47-T has rich low end with a little sparkle on top! It is a tri-polar microphone with selectable Cardioid, Figure-8, and Omni pickup patterns.

All Class-A F.E.T. design manufactured in 3 Zigma Aerospace Manufacturing facility with British Oxford Transformer, and premium quality Low-Noise 3 Zigma capsules with Vintage Voicing Curves. The audiophile circuitry differs from lesser-designs in that it is designed for Soft-Saturation at extremely high SPL as instead of going into the "crunch" and unpleasant distortion (not the good kind of distortion!) of hard-clipping.

What We Think

"The ADK Custom Shop Berlin 47-T Microphone is the best selling voicing of the popular ADK Custom Shop T-FET Tripolar microphone line. Why? Well, it's a FET microphone with a "47" capsule, for starters. Those seeking the classic sound of the Neumann FET47 outside a kick drum either needed to hire a studio with one in their collection, or shell out the mad-money being asked for one of the originals these days. And as far as specifications go, the T-FET line's custom capsules and amplifier circuitry excel and surpass many of the classic microphones which inspired the design. ADK's T-FETs not clones by any stretch of the imagination - they're improvements in several ways. These classic capsule voicings are the points of reference by which engineers choose a tool when encountering particular instruments and voices. And the 47 voicing is, by and large, the least 'offensive' of these; meaning, it works for generating usable tracks from the widest variety of instruments and voices. As a result, the ADK Custom Shop Berlin 47-T a perfect microphone to start with when graduating to a premium quality FET microphone. Plus, ADK's Soft-Saturation Circuit provides tons of pleasing 'spongy' sonic 'shock absorption' which helps hard transient material sit perfectly in digital tracks where we once relied on tape compression and longer signal paths to smooth out signals.

My experience with the ADK 47 custom

Posted by Donnie Scearce on Jun 26th 2014

The fit and finish of the mic, as expected from a mic in this price range, is very good. This always instills a level of confidence, for me, that says the mic is going to have the same level of attention to detail in the sound quality too. I was not surprised that the mic performs as well as it does. Ive tested hundreds of mics over the years and have a pretty good idea of how a mic is gonna fit into my color palette after giving it a solo listen. The 47 works great on male vocals, acoustic guitars, and as a room mic for drums so far. I try to purchase all my pro audio gear from front end audio as well. I know and TRUST the sales team. They have always gone the extra mile for me.
