The Solid State Logic UltraViolet 500-Series Equalizer takes the acclaimed minimum phase-shift EQ section from Fusion and puts it into the 500 Series format.

The ULTRAVIOLET EQ takes things a little further than Fusion by adding two dedicated mid-bands, with a unique Focus control, for ultimate EQ flexibility. An ideal partner to the legendary 500 Series SSL Bus Compressor, the ULTRAVIOLET EQ draws on the SSL legacy of careful selection of frequencies and response curves to create a musical and intuitive EQ designed to quickly dial in a radio-ready sound for your mix.

Focus Mode
Focus mode allows the user to ‘hone in’ on problem frequencies or specific frequencies they want to accentuate or attenuate. Pressing the ‘Focus’ switch in, automatically narrows the chosen Q setting further and increases the range of gain available beyond the normal +/-9 dB operation. In true flexible SSL workflow fashion, it transforms this sweet sounding, musical SSL EQ into a more surgical tool.

    SSL Ultraviolet eq 500 series
    J Bruckler

SSL’s ultraviolet stereo eq really holds its own against other more expensive eq’s of the 500 series format. Its sound brings classic SSL vibes. I describe it as tight, and, more specifically, the high boosts can be particularly musical. I mainly apply this eq to groups for small touch-ups. I also sometimes utilize it for tone-shaping an individual recording, and the focus switch, which narrows the q and increases the gain range for boosts/cuts, is a great feature for this. Focus is also very useful for me when treating problem frequencies. One more note is that the plugin version cannot exactly replicate what the hardware can do when it comes to boosting the highs.

    Great equalizer!
    KY

This is the first time I have purchased an SSL hardware product. This equalizer allows me to express the texture of the music I listen to every day. I feel the familiar texture of the SSL especially in the wide range and midrange. It's punchy and out of the box. It is the only hardware equalizer I have. So I use it not only on the master bass, but also on the drum bass and each part. It has a very wide range of uses and I highly recommend it as a first hardware EQ like mine. Above all, the price of $499 during the sale is phenomenal. It is too high value for money. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version) I think I will be using this equalizer for a long time.

Are you kidding? Just buy it.
    Lynn Walker

Better than your average 4-band EQ, yet it may be the lowest priced stereo EQ in the 500 series market. The focus feature is a nice addition. I briefly hesitated, since half of this unit is redundant with the SSL Fusion, but then I realized I just have the option to cut and boost at those frequencies.
