The Peluso R14 Ribbon Microphone is a passive ribbon microphone designed after classic ribbons, with natural, rich, and silky sound.

The Peluso R14 Ribbon Microphone employs a thin corrugated aluminum ribbon tensioned between two rare earth neodymium magnets. It uses the long-ribbon geometry of classic ribbon microphones of the 1930s. The Peluso R14 sound is rich, warm, and silky smooth with generous low end, and is known to take EQ very nicely. The natural sound of the Peluso R14 Ribbon Microphone is the perfect complement to the condensers in your microphone collection. Remember never blow into a ribbon microphone! The microphone comes as a complete system including: R14 Microphone in a Wood Box, and a Shock Mount.

    Great mic!!!

The R14 is a fantastic mic. I really love them on guitar amps, I’ve been pleasantly surprised with them on some vocals and the R14 is by far my favorite mic for banjo. In my opinion the R14 is every bit as good as the R121 and far more versatile.

    surprise, surprise, surprise

recently i spent a lot of time recording vocals/acoustic guitar with it. the sound is smooth. at first i was reluctant to record vocals because of proximity effect, but by positioning the mic so i am singing up front & close but just below the capsule, while the mic is facing downard picking up the acoustic guitar, i was able to get a very nice mono recording of voice/acoustic guitar. the balance is just right for my taste. now i am using it as a vocal stand alone mic, up close, but making sure my mouth is just below the capsule, otherwise my breath and vocal traits cause too much pops, even with a pop screen. on instruments it is superb. depending on which mic pre you use, you can even get away w/40 db (that is with using my Origin STT-1) or i've had good success using it with the Cloud ribbon mic booster (which supplys 20db gain) going into a Groove Tubes Brick cranked to full volume. i've also used it with a Speck Mic Pre 5.0, & a Chandler TGII cranked to 60 db all with good results

What We Think

The Peluso R14 is a ribbon mic with serious weight behind it. While using it in the studio, the first thing that jumped out at us was just how fat it sounds. The low end and lower midrange are front and center in the best way, making floor toms sing, guitar cabinets thunder, and acoustic guitars feel big and authoritative. If you’re looking for a ribbon that brings size and attitude, the R14 absolutely delivers. What we also love is how well the R14 plays with EQ. Even though it’s clearly tuned to favor the lower ranges, it takes high-end shelving boosts beautifully when you want to bring things back into balance. The midrange stays smooth and forgiving, which makes it great for taming harsh or edgy sources without killing the vibe. It’s the kind of mic you put up when you want instant thickness — and then smile when you hear it back in the control room.
