The Oktava MK-012-03 Multi-Capsule Microphone Set is a compact, high quality, small diaphragm microphone featuring interchangeable Cardioid, HyperCardioid and Omni capsules. The Oktava MK-012-01 microphone is by far the most famous microphone in their line-up, and the MK-012-03 set gives you all three of the small diaphragm capsules for the MK-012 body. This highly versatile set gives you the ability to configure your MK-012 to your unique recording application. The classic silver color looks beautiful in the studio or on stage.

The Oktava MK-012-03 Multi-Capsule Microphone Set is hand built in Tula Russia with solid electronics and modular parts. Swapping the capsules out is an easy and secure process with Oktava’s exceptional design. The MK-012 microphone offers a naturally smooth and musically balanced character with great off-axis rejection, ideal for your acoustic guitar and piano recordings. The small size of the microphone provides easy positioning, even in tight spaces. The MK-012-03 set comes with all three of Oktava’s small diaphragm capsules, making this microphone a versatile powerhouse in the recording studio. The included -10 dB pad is ideal for high SPL environments. Whatever you configuration may be, Front End Audio is here to help you build your Oktava microphone system.

The new packaging features a high-end color printed flip box with magnetic closure and a rigid foam insert. This new packaging is designed to bring cohesiveness to the brand and provide the most protection for Oktava microphones during transportation and storage.

The Oktava MK-012-03 Multi-Capsule Microphone Set has been a go-to mic for us for years now, and that alone should say a lot. While in the studio, it’s one of those mics you reach for without overthinking it—because you already know it’s going to work. Acoustic guitar, stringed instruments, drum room, drum overheads (that transient response is legit), even dialogue… the MK-012 just keeps showing up and doing the job well, session after session. What really makes the MK-012 special is the flexibility you get from the different capsules. The cardioid capsule has impressively strong off-axis rejection, which makes it excellent for stereo work and big, well-defined images. We’ve had great results using them on drum overheads, acoustic guitar, and piano, and they lend themselves beautifully to classic stereo techniques like spaced pair, ORTF, and X/Y. The hyper-cardioid capsule tightens things up even more, with a more focused pickup and a bit of extra upper-mid presence—perfect when you need to isolate a source in a noisy environment. That’s exactly why these capsules have been so popular for ENG and film dialogue over the years. Then there’s the omni capsule, which opens everything up with a smooth, natural sound that feels effortless on drum room, piano, and acoustic instruments. One of our favorite tricks is pairing an omni with a cardioid on acoustic guitar—it can make the instrument feel larger than life and gives you a really cool, dimensional stereo image. Reliable, versatile, and still relevant decades later, the MK-012-03 is a classic for a reason.
