The Direct Sound DS-74s feel like a new direction for the company — and yes, we caught the pun too. While using them in the studio, it became clear pretty quickly that these are serious, reference-grade headphones. One of the first things we noticed was how well the low end is controlled. The bottom stays even and honest, without that artificial buildup you sometimes get with closed-back designs, which makes them far easier to trust. With that balanced low end paired with solid detail and clarity, the DS-74s ended up being a great fit for a wide range of work. During tracking, mix reference, and editing sessions, they gave us a clear picture of what was really happening without exaggeration or fatigue. Add in the fact that they’re extremely comfortable to wear for long stretches, and they quickly became easy to keep on your head all day. Direct Sound really nailed it with the DS-74s — a thoughtful, well-executed step forward that just works.
