The dbx 676 Microphone Channel Strip is a professional tube channel strip that provides classic warmth and punch with flexible dynamics control. It is designed for audio engineers who need a versatile, all-in-one hardware solution to sculpt vocals, guitars, and other instruments.

The 676 represents all of the best of dbx’s more than 40 years of dynamics processing. It offers a pristine high-voltage, Class-A tube preamp section that runs on 250 volts, so your signal can be as crystal clean or dirty as you need it to be. The 676 also incorporates the compressor/limiter design from the highly-sought after dbx162SL, as well as a 3-band parametric EQ with sweepable mids. The 676 provides audio professionals with the perfect channel strip for recording and live applications alike with its military-grade build, vintage-inspired controls and VU metering.

The 676 is packed with professional features, starting with a powerful compressor/limiter based on the acclaimed dbx 162SL. This compressor offers both hard and soft-knee (OverEasy) modes, with manual or automatic control over attack and release times, as well as dbx's PeakPlus limiting to prevent clipping. The unit also includes a 3-band semi-parametric EQ with sweepable mids, allowing for precise tonal shaping. It provides comprehensive connectivity, including XLR and ¼-inch inputs and outputs, a front-panel instrument input, and a side-chain insert for advanced processing like de-essing. Additionally, separate outputs for the preamp and compressor sections offer greater flexibility for parallel processing.

dbx 676 Microphone Channel Strip Features

  • Class-A high-voltage vacuum tube preamp: Delivers a warm, rich tone that can be clean or heavily saturated, with a 250-volt rail for maximum headroom.
  • dbx 162SL-style compressor/limiter: Incorporates the VCA compressor design from the acclaimed dbx 162SL, providing smooth dynamics control with variable ratio and OverEasy (soft-knee) or Hard Knee compression.
  • 3-band semi-parametric EQ: Includes sweepable mid-range frequencies, with high and low shelving bands at 10 kHz and 100 Hz respectively, for musical tone shaping.
  • High-visibility vintage VU meter: A large, easy-to-read, illuminated meter can display input level, output level, or gain reduction.
  • Front-panel instrument input: A 1/4-inch jack on the front allows direct connection of instruments like guitar or bass.
  • Sidechain insert: Provides a 1/4-inch jack for integrating external signal processors with the compressor, enabling frequency-dependent compression (de-essing) and other effects.
  • PeakPlus limiter: A separate limiting algorithm catches sudden, loud peaks to prevent digital clipping, allowing for independent control from the main compressor.
  • Phantom power, pad, and polarity invert: Includes essential functions like +48V for condenser microphones, a -20 dB pad for high-level sources, and a polarity (phase) invert switch.
  • Flexible gain control: The preamp offers both a pre-tube gain control and a post-tube attenuation control, giving you command over the amount of tube saturation.
  • Multiple I/O: The unit provides professional connectivity with balanced XLR and 1/4-inch inputs and outputs for flexible signal routing.
