By using standard +48V phantom power to energize its internal circuitry—without passing phantom power to the microphone—it safely boosts passive ribbon, dynamic, and many tube microphones while protecting sensitive microphone elements. The result is increased sensitivity, improved signal-to-noise ratio, greater headroom, and more authentic microphone character with less preamp coloration.
