Combining Cloud Microphones’ patented Class-A discrete JFET circuitry with custom CineMag transformers, the CL-X2 delivers selectable +12 dB or +36 dB gain while adding depth, dimension, and harmonic character to the signal. Whether you are recording quiet vocals, low-output ribbon microphones, drums, guitar cabinets, podcasts, or broadcast sources, the CL-X2 gives you a flexible way to strengthen your microphone signal while putting a little transformer personality into the front end. At the heart of each CL-X2 channel is a custom CineMag microphone input transformer designed specifically for Cloud Microphones’ X-Series. The transformer is dynamically responsive, allowing its character to become more apparent as the input signal increases. Select the +36 dB setting when you need substantial gain from a low-output microphone, or switch to +12 dB when working with louder sources and you want to take advantage of the transformer’s harmonic response without excessive level. The Cloudlifter CL-X2 fits directly between your passive microphone and microphone preamp or audio interface. It operates from standard +48V phantom power supplied by the downstream preamp, but phantom power is not passed through to the connected microphone, making it suitable for passive ribbon microphones.
