Looking at the Ingram Engineering EQ52 Equalizer Module!

The Ingram Engineering EQ52 500-Series Equalizer is a versatile and musical sounding EQ and mastering quality filter module with high pass, low pass and see-saw filters. With its expertly designed circuitry and quality componentry, the EQ52 is ideal for individual tracks or mixing and mastering with the Ingram Engineering EQ52 500-Series Equalizers (Stereo Pair)

The EQ52 is an update of the Ingram Engineering EQ50. Some of the new features include two selectable frequency ranges from 45 - 600 Hz or 640 Hz - 5 kHz (compared to one sweepable range from 20 Hz - 1 kHz on the EQ50) and an In/Out button which completely removes the Low Cut Filter from the signal path. Also, the EQ50 offered just two pivot points at 400 Hz or 1 kHz. The improved EQ52 provides a pair of fully-sweepable pivot ranges from 110 Hz - 1.7k or 1.7k - 26k which can be boosted or cut by 5dB. Also, the Hi-Cut filter now extends from 2.7k - 200k compared to the EQ50's range of 5k - 200k.

The EQ52's specialty is in filtering. Its cut/pass filters offer a much broader reach than most standard EQs and the low cut is ideal for removing low rumble, thumps and mud. But the feature that sets the EQ52 apart from other EQs is its see-saw filter. The See-Saw Filter provides simultaneous cut of one frequency band, while boosting another. Turn the adjustment knob clockwise and the treble is boosted while the bass is attenuated. Conversely, turn it the other way and the bass is boosted while the treble is attenuated.

The high-quality buttons and knobs on the EQ52 are smooth and resistant. If you're familiar with the feel of SSL hardware, that's what you can expect from the EQ52. In regards to the sound, with just a touch of tasteful tweaking, the EQ52 can produce great sounding results quickly, and at just $400 you can get a pair for less than the cost of most single 500-series EQs.

Ingram Engineering EQ52 500-Series Equalizer - Gear360 at Front End Audio

Take the Ingram Engineering EQ52 500-Series Equalizer for a spin on Front End Audio's Gear360.

The Ingram Engineering EQ52 500-Series Equalizer is deceptively simple. While there is nothing mysterious about it, you don't really grasp how powerful it is, until you start using it. The hi-pass and low-pass filters are beyond useful, and is something that is needed in every studio. The see-saw filter is "a little goes a long way" filter that emphasizes the sound source in just the right way. This EQ is well-suited for tracking, mixing and bus applications, and will easily become one of the most valued pieces of equipment in your studio – with at least two being needed. Track everything with a hi-pass filter, apply a low pass when needed (guitars, snare, kick, bass), and get rid of the unneeded information before it gets to the DAW. Tilt if you need to enhance, or wait until mixing to apply that and adjust the hi and low filters further (if needed). This will clean up your audio and make everything sound better.
