Introducing the Universal Audio Sphere DLX and LX Modeling Microphones

The  Universal Audio Sphere DLX Modeling Microphone and Universal Audio Sphere LX Modeling Microphone build upon the highly regarded Townsend Labs modeling platform (now under the Universal Audio brand). The Sphere DLX brings you a dual capsule modeling microphone with expanded modeling capabilities for multi-pattern mono and stereo recordings using the Sphere 180 software. You can also adjust parameters such as off-axis correction, proximity effect and filtering. With a large selection of classic Townsend models, along with new Universal Audio models, the possibilities are endless in offering the most powerful and comprehensive virtual mic locker available.

The  Universal Audio Sphere LX is the all-new little brother of the DLX. It offers a dual capsule mono modeling microphone with variable polar patterns, a wide selection of virtual microphone models, and adjustable controls that include off-axis correction, proximity effect and filtering. If you don't need the expanded selection of virtual mics and stereo capabilities of the DLX, you’ll find the LX to be all you need and more. It’s ideal for artists and engineers who primarily record vocals.

Universal Audio did an excellent job emulating the tone and character of the greatest mics ever made. There are a ton of microphone models to select from. I love that with the Sphere plugins, you can record through the emulations inside the UA Console app, or apply them after recording in your DAW. Using the Sphere 180 software, you can also adjust helpful parameters like the polar pattern, proximity effect, and make off-axis corrections. Even if you’re not a fan of modeling microphones, I would suggest considering this for harmonies and doubles. Having the ability to switch microphone models and layer tones on vocal stacks can add nice separation and depth to your mix! The cool thing about the DLX versus its little brother the LX, is that it’s stereo – meaning you’re able to use different microphone models and control the parameters for the front and back of the microphone independently! Check out the Universal Audio Sphere DLX and LX modeling microphones, you won’t be disappointed!
