Like the original B&O design, the Warm Audio Fen-tone recreates the compact, pencil-style design with ventilated sides that can easily be placed in crowded recording environments. Unlike the original, Fen-tone features modern upgrades including a custom Japanese ribbon, rare-earth Neodymium magnet, and CineMag USA transformer to deliver the iconic ribbon tones made popular in contemporary music on electric guitars, overheads, horns, and many more sources. Fen-tone adds an all-analog 26 dB JFET in-line preamp, allowing for active use - a critical feature for using ribbons directly with underpowered interface preamps.

Excellent Ribbon Mic
Nov 10th 2025I use this mic for guitar cabs, acoustic instruments, and vocals. On its own it has a rich low end, present mids, and buttery highs. This works great for all the sources I’ve thrown at it. It really shines when coupled with a condenser or dynamic mic. Pair it with a large diaphragm on vocals or acoustic guitar or a dynamic on guitar cabs and even acoustic guitar and it adds weight and depth. I’ve used a 121 and this mic is a perfect substitute for it. To my ears, a 121 may have a bit more transparency in the highs but for the money the Fen-Tone is indistinguishable from a 121 in a mix. The ability to run it off phantom power is a lifesaver if you find yourself at a session without a powerful preamp. Highly recommended.
