Sandhill Audio 6011A Ribbon Microphones
The Sandhill Audio 6011A Ribbon Microphone is available is a matched pair perfect for your stereo recordings. The 6011A offers a new approach to ribbon microphone design, construction and materials. Designed to provide a natural human-like way of hearing sounds, the Sandhill Audio 6011A Ribbon Microphone is simultaneously designed using a electrically conductive composite material as the ribbon element, ensuring an element you can use without fear of busting, while also providing a smooth musical response. All of this together with the clarity and sensitivity of the active circuit - makes the 6011A a versatile tool for the studio, and the stage.
The Sandhill Audio 6011A Ribbon Microphone is a versatile and very musical sounding microphone for live and project studio situations. The Sandhill Audio 6011A Ribbon Microphone reacts in an exceptionally musical way to the sound pressure level variations. This feature is really useful in situations like recording loud singers, when typically the tone has a tendency to narrow as the sound level increases. The 6011A is an unbelievably level linear microphone. The Sandhill 6011A has a flat bass response without the low end emphasizes typical to most ribbon microphones. This is good for recording the kick drum, the upright or electric bass and the electric guitar. The great low end dynamic range makes the 6011A useable in all close-miking situations. The Sandhill Audio 6011A Ribbon Microphone's figure of eight - polar pattern is symmetrical on a large frequency range. For this reason the microphone hears the stray field in a very musical way and the dynamics of the recorded media can be compressed effectively while the tone and the transients stay in a good balance. A thing worth mentioning is that the microphone is nearly deaf to the sound coming from the sides on the critical transient range. This feature combined with the high SPL-headroom allows the microphone to be used safely in most close-miking situations.
The mechanical structure of the 6011A consists of rigid precision machined aluminum and steel part assembly resulting a resonance free frame for the ribbon. The ribbon element is electrically conductive composite material making it significantly stronger than traditional aluminum ribbons. This extra strength allows Sandhill Audio to use only minimal screening around the ribbon without the fear of broken transducers. The microphone can handle unbelievably high sound pressure levels without any sign of distortion or physical damage. Sandhill Audio 6011A Ribbon Microphone's custom corrugated ribbon profile is designed to minimize the effect of standing wave modes on a ribbon element.
The active circuitry of the Sandhill Audio 6011A Ribbon Microphone is designed to prevent the preamplifier from damping the ribbon. The circuit works as a very high constant load to the ribbon while providing a low output impedance that any preamp can handle. With active electronics, the ever critical transient response and low end frequency response are optimized. Using passive ribbon microphones with preamps that have a low input impedance is a gamble. Sandhill Audio 6011A Ribbon Microphone will work optimal with any preamp capable of delivering nominal gain and 48 Volt phantom power. The active circuit is featured with a switchable 6dB preattenuation to prevent electrical clipping with extremely loud sound sources ( >160dB peak) . The preattenuator can be activated from a slide switch located in the electronics cavity of the microphone.
Sandhill Audio 6011A Ribbon Microphone shock mount allows one to place the microphone in any position and as close to the sound source as one needs. Due to the mechanical design and Sandhill Audio custom composition, the suspension properties of the shock mount will remain constant in any angular position, resulting in the best possible floor and handling noise rejection at all times. The contact of the microphone to the shock mount is secured with sturdy M6 machine screw to prevent fallouts. The Sandhill Audio 6011A Ribbon Microphone is supplied with water and gas tight High Performance Resin Case. These cases will secure your Sandhill Microphones even out of the hardest airport treatment or a car runover!
The Sandhill Audio 6011A Ribbon Microphone is a precision weapon when looking for a big snare sound- the attack of the snare is huge and the hi-hat doesn't mess things up. Many sound engineers have found the Sandhill Audio 6011A Ribbon Microphone to be very practical in both close and ambient miking of a drum set.
