PreSonus Studio One Professional 5 Music Production Software
The PreSonus Studio One Professional 5 Music Production Software comes equipped with over 70 new features and improvements that benefit both traditional recordists as well as contemporary nonlinear producers. It is by far the most user friendly DAW on the market. There are multiple ways to accomplish one task, making Studio One Professional 5 mold to your workflow.
The PreSonus Studio One Professional 5 Music Production Software is designed with ease of use at its core. It seamlessly combines the time-tested and proven recording studio model with today’s beat- and loop-oriented production process so you can bring musical ideas to sonic reality more quickly than ever before. An efficient, single-screen interface houses an unlimited number of tracks, intuitive editing tools, and advanced virtual instruments. Spend your precious time creating music instead of wondering what to click next. The PreSonus Studio One Professional 5 doesn’t dictate how you work or what you work on. You do.
The PreSonus Studio One Professional 5 is your creative companion from start to finish. The Start Page provides what you need to kickstart your creative process—open projects, set parameters, and check for updates and tips. From there, the Song Page is all about recording, arranging, editing, and mixing your music with a complete set of virtual instruments, effects, and groundbreaking arrangement tools. Then, assemble and master your music in the Project Page. Even better, the Project and Song Pages are linked so if you need just that one little change in your master or stems, switch to the Song Page, tweak, and mix back automatically to the Project. No other program accomplishes the goal of such an effortless transition as you move from the initial creative inspiration to the finished, mastered production.
Get the Most Out of Your Workstation
Let’s be honest—computers aren’t cheap, and you want to actually use the power you’ve paid for. Good news: The #1 PreSonus Studio One Professional 5 feature request has been implemented with the arrival of multi-core optimization for virtual instruments! With PreSonus Studio One 5, the CPU load for using combined virtual instruments inside a Multi-Instrument has been reduced by a whopping 70% for Native Plug-ins and by around 50% for third-party instruments like Kontakt. PreSonus has also added CPU optimization for Mai Tai and Presence XT. Beyond your CPU, they’ve also deepened Studio One’s integration with your PreSonus hardware.
Expanded Input, Gain Staging, Polarity Options, and Channel Customization
The new Input Channel mixer section adds software-based input gain and polarity controls to every input, even if your hardware doesn’t provide such controls. Combining hardware and software-based gain controls lets you drive a hardware preamp a bit while still maintaining control over the levels actually recorded to disk. This new approach to gain staging offers more flexibility and more precise control throughout the entire recording and mixing process. It also allows for traditional printing of outboard processing, for those of you who like to commit to your decisions early in the mixing process. Ideal for producers who solve their crossword puzzles with a pen. Polarity and gain controls have also been added to every audio, instrument, FX and Bus channel in the console… if you like. PreSonus updated the console’s channels to be customizable to show as much (or as little) information as you’d prefer, including Audio Device Controls, Input Controls, Sends/Cue mix, I/O connections, VCA connections, Mix groups, and new Channel Notes!
Robust Routing and Metering Updates
The console’s multi-channel I/O routing to single sources/destinations has been streamlined to a single click. PreSonus also added an alternate “reverse sidechain” workflow, and copied plug-ins now retain their sidechain routing. Global pre-fader metering has been added to the console, as well as an RMS/Peak metering option for all channels.
Note Editing Now Goes Way Beyond MIDI
New note editing options are now at the heart of MIDI editing in PreSonus Studio One Professional 5. The Note Actions menu has been completely re-designed for fast, intuitive editing and composition, and includes new creative note editing options for Instrument tracks including Randomize, Apply Scale, Mirror, and more. All of these are assignable to keyboard shortcuts and included in Macros. Independent quantize grids (including the new Snap to Zero Crossings option) are now available for the Arrangement, Audio, or Music Editor—apply different Quantization to each. You also get two new scale options, and the Chord Selector now has the much-requested Chord Audition feature, ideal for users who compose by ear.
Getting a Grip on Your Groups
PreSonus completely redesigned Grouping for 5. Groups can now be nested, (great for drums) named, colored, and assigned to keyboard shortcuts for enable/disable. Furthermore, groups now have attributes for defining Edit Groups or Mix Groups, including Volume, Pan, Mute/Solo, and more. They’re easily edited and activated with one click, and Group visibility can now be displayed on a per-channel basis. Grouped items can be temporarily suspended from their group to be edited individually via a simple Alt-click.
Collaborators will enjoy the updates to Import/Export options in PreSonus Studio One 5. You’re now able to export video (!) in various formats with your mixdown embedded, and they’ve added support for variable-bitrate MP3, AAC, and ALAC. You can now export in glorious mono, too. Beyond new filetype exports, you’re also able to import and export I/O setups—great for mobile collaborators or users with multiple interfaces.
Streamlined Plug-in Manager
Managing huge libraries of plug-ins and virtual instruments in PreSonus Studio One 5 is now faster and easier than ever before. The new Plug-in Manager combines all the tools for managing large systems in one place—hiding duplicate plug-ins or removing individual plug-ins from the blacklist now only takes a few clicks.
Lock it Up
Individual Audio Events, Audio Parts and Instrument Parts in the Arrangement window can now be locked to prevent unintentional moving or editing. In fact, these locks are independent in the form of Time Lock and Edit Lock, respectively. A complete Lock for Tracks is available as well. No more accidental edits!
Audio Batch Converter
While PreSonus' focus in 5 was on customer-requested updates, they just had to include a surprise or two as well. Co-launching with PreSonus Studio One 5 is the Audio Batch Converter, an Extension available separately at shop.presonus.com. The Audio Batch Converter allows you to not only convert formats (Wave, AIFF, FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, CAF, M4A, and MP3) across multiple files in one go, but also apply any effect you can access in Studio One—including your third-party VSTs. Or you can run any of the 11 audio processes including: Split Multichannel Files, Repair Sample Rate, Remove DC Offset, Fade, and more. Any individual Processes or complete Process Racks can be saved into presets. All via drag and drop, as you’ve come to expect. Great for: collaborators, consistent asset delivery, reduction of human error, and owners of finicky hardware samplers.

ARA integration of Melodyne Studio and Vocalign Pro are absolutely stunning and have saved me hours of work. This software runs very well on my machine and I love the way this thing works. If you're coming from PT expect a bit steeper of a learning curve but if you're coming from Steinberg or Logic you will pick it up quick. I would seriously consider giving this a try.
