The John Hardy M-2 3-Channel Microphone Preamp is among the finest mic preamps on the market providing superior accuracy and transparency. No matter what your application, the M-2 will deliver the sound quality you need for your critical recordings.

The M-2 is sonically identical to the John Hardy M-1, but with a 16 position stepped gain providing accurate and repeatable gain settings from 15dB to 60dB in 3dB steps. The M-2 features a Jensen JT-16-B input transformer, John Hardy's very own 11C output transformer and a 990C+ discrete op-amp. This with the elimination of all capacitors from the signal path makes the John Hardy M-2 on serious preamp!

Modular Design
The John Hardy M-2 features a 19-inch rack-mount chassis that can be configured with one to four preamp channels. Purchase three channels now and add an additional channel later, allowing you to build your M-2 preamp on your terms.

VU-1 Meter (Included)
When you purchase the John Hardy M-2 from Front End Audio, you get the VU-1 Meter option for FREE! This is a very accurate and informative 20 segment LED meter with peak LED for monitoring the preamp output.

-20dB PAD (Included)
The -20dB Pad is the right configuration for 95% of users and therefore the default configuration of the preamp. This PAD will be very handy if you are recording potentially loud sources such as drums, guitar amps, and jet engines.

20 Ohm Switch (Optional)
If you would prefer a 20 Ohm Switch over the -20dB Pad, just let us know and we will be happy to configure your M-2 to meet your needs. This option helps optimize microphones that have extremely low output impedances to work with the John Hardy preamps. But if you don't have extremely low impedance microphones, then go with the default -20dB PAD option.

What We Think

John Hardy preamps are the stuff of legend. John's relationship with Jensen transformers goes back to his relationship with Deane Jensen himself (for whom John custom made the Twin Servo 990 preamplifier). Utilizing top-flight components, including the celebrated 990C Discrete Op-Amp, and Jensen USA input and output transformers, John Hardy has made what many consider the ultimate microphone preamplifiers for musically exciting detail. Not empty or "blank" sounding like many "pristine" preamps, John Hardy preamps will be what you'll reach for time and time again. Just to be on the safe side, give yourself couple of weeks to take delivery, though it's usually much sooner than that - John builds them to order and the demand is high. But, if you know what a great mic preamp sounds like, once you hear them you'll be convinced that they are worth the wait!
