The DPA 4099-D Core+ Microphone for Drums is an award winning microphone designed to perfectly handle the SPL needed to mic drums, and provides a natural and detailed sound, while rejecting undesired noise and ambience.

Next-generation, high-performance instrument microphone featuring CORE+ technology. This mic delivers pristine, natural and undistorted sound with exceptional isolation and off-axis rejection for any live or studio setting. Fitted with MicroLock and a series of upgraded instrument clips, the 4099 CORE+ provides even better stability and flexibility on any type of instrument.

Since 2017, 4099 Instrument Mics have benefited from DPA’s CORE technology and now it’s time for CORE+. While CORE by DPA is a powerful technology that minimizes distortion, CORE+ offers even more, taking the 4099 to the next level. CORE+ microphones deliver even greater clarity across the entire dynamic range, from the quietest passages to extremely high SPLs. They offer an unprecedented sense of openness. On some instruments like grand piano and horns, where the harmonic structure is essential to the instrument’s natural character, even minor artifacts can compromise the sound. With CORE+, this risk is dramatically reduced, preserving the integrity of the source.

The DPA 4099-D Core+ is easily one of the most impressive drum microphones we’ve had the chance to use. While working with it in the studio and on stage, the first thing that stands out is how effortlessly it handles extreme SPL. You can put it right up on a drum and hit as hard as you want — it never flinches, never collapses, and never sounds stressed. The compact size and sturdy gooseneck make placement incredibly easy. Dialing in the exact spot you want takes seconds, and the rim mount keeps everything clean and uncluttered without stealing valuable space around the kit. Once it’s in position, the sound speaks for itself. The 4099-D delivers a very natural, wide frequency response with excellent off-axis rejection, which means you get clarity, detail, depth, and punch without fighting bleed. If the drums sound good, this mic lets them sound like themselves — just bigger, clearer, and more focused. We’ve had fantastic results on rack toms, floor toms, and snare, and it’s one of those microphones that builds confidence quickly. Set it, hit record, and you’re basically done. DPA absolutely nailed it with the 4099-D Core+.
