The Black Lion Audio B173 Quad Preamp delivers four channels of classic British-style mic preamplification with big transformer tone, generous gain, and plenty of front-end attitude for tracking sessions that need real analog weight.

Built around Cinemag input and output transformers, the B173 Quad brings the punchy lows, forward mids, and polished top end associated with vintage ’73-style preamps into a practical 2U rackmount format. With four mic preamp channels, front-panel Hi-Z DI inputs, stepped gain, output attenuation, phantom power, and phase control, it is ready for drums, vocals, guitars, bass, keys, synths, and ribbon microphones that need clean gain with character. Each channel lets you push the input stage for transformer saturation while trimming the output level to keep your interface or recorder happy. That makes the B173 Quad equally useful for clean, full-bodied capture or more colored, harmonically rich tones when you want the preamp to become part of the sound.

    I don’t own a single mic, lol! I got this pre specifically for having the option to add a minor hint to major saturation to my synths, drum machine, and sampler before going into the soundcard. Sounds great, I love it!
