The Black Lion Audio B172A Compressor brings two legendary dynamics flavors together in one seriously useful 2U hardware processor.
By combining a ‘76-style FET limiter with a ‘2A-style optical compressor, the B172A gives engineers the punch, speed, smoothness, and musical control needed for vocals, bass, drums, guitars, and full-on studio problem solving. The B172A can run each compressor independently, operate in dual mono, or place both circuits in series with selectable A/B or B/A routing. Use the FET side to grab fast peaks, the optical side for smooth leveling, or stack both for that polished vocal chain sound that has lived on countless records. Black Lion Audio also put serious attention into the signal path, including a CineMag input transformer on the optical side, Chicago-wound output transformers on both circuits, premium capacitors, and a custom T4BLA opto-element. The result is a flexible hybrid FET/optical compressor that delivers classic analog compression character without needing two separate rack units.
