The Sennheiser MKH 8020 Omnidirectional Microphone is outstanding instrument mic ideal for “spaced pair” and “Decca Tree” recordings or the use in an OSS “Jecklin Disk“ array. Featuring accurate directional pattern, wide frequency response, and extremely low distortion and inherent self-noise, it is perfect for stereo and surround recordings.

The Sennheiser MKH 8020 Omnidirectional Microphone is ideal for recording large and small sound sources, for a "Decca Tree" or for use in an OSS "Jecklin Disk" array. As it does not suffer from a proximity effect, the Sennheiser MKH 8020 Omnidirectional Compact Microphone is also a good choice for close-miking. If the acoustic ambiance is right, it will provide very impressive recordings. The extra octave at the bottom end makes the Sennheiser MKH 8020 perfect for recording pipe organs, grand piano and acoustic double-bass.

    Great Sound, Poor Quality Control
    Matthew

The sound of this mic is not in question; it's one of the best flat omnis available today. However, Sennheiser seems to be having difficulty with their Nextel coating process. It just flakes off the mic. Removing the mic from the mount that came in the box and from Sennheiser's own shockmount destroys the finish on the mic. I've had it for a few days and it already looks like I've been abusing it for years.
