sE Electronics sE4400A Microphone

The sE Electronics sE4400A Microphone is a pure modern classic mic with four polar patterns, a vintage-style brass capsule, two bass cuts and two pads, and the most adaptable shockmount around. Offering an unmatched tonal versatility, the sE4400A is perfect for vocals, guitars, toms, overheads, classical pianos, strings and more!

The sE Electronics sE4400A Microphone is constructed using the finest quality electronic components and extensively tested to provide you with years of trouble-free operation. The sE Electronics sE4400A Microphone offers the vintage versatility at its finest.

Four polar patterns, a vintage-style brass capsule, two bass cuts and two pads, and the most adaptable shockmount around - the sE Electronics sE4400A Mic is pure modern classic.

Much like a few particularly well-known classic European condensers, the sE Electronics sE4400A Mic is a true all-rounder. You can put it up on just about anything and it'll sound great.

Unfortunately for many studio owners, those "classic condensers" are often not what they used to be. Capsule designs change over time, capacitors dry out, metal switches are replaced with plastic buttons and LEDs, and the mics that were once so versatile are now mere shadows of their former selves.

Given the practically cult status of these vintage mics, sE Electronics saw an opportunity, and from that arose the sE Electronics sE4400A Mic. Now these classics are obtainable - hand-made brass capsule, four-polar-pattern-versatility and all. And like the classics, the sE Electronics sE4400A Mic sounds great on everything. Vocals, guitars, toms, overheads, classical pianos, strings, you name it. Its tonal versatility is practically unmatched, without the shortcomings of vintage mics.

Hand-Crafted Capsules

As with all sE mics, the sE Electronics sE4400A Mic's back-to-back brass-ringed capsules are hand-built and hand-tuned by our skilled technicians, just like any fine musical instrument.

Custom Shockmount + Chassis

The flat, round-edged chassis design and custom suspension mount allow the mic to be centered within the shock, flipped around and used flat against a drum head or guitar cab, or angled outwards and pushed through inside of a kick drum. And at less than 3/4" thick, it fits neatly in the palm of your hand, but is built to take a beating on the road.

Non-Reflective Paint

The sE Electronics sE4400A Mic has a unique, black, non-reflective, non-marking, rubberized finish which is ideal for live stage, theatre, TV and broadcast applications which require lighting.

Nice all purpose mic. September 6, 2013
Reviewer: Tom Kingston from Charlton, MA United States
While the SE4400A is nothing to drool over it is a nice all purpose mic. The build quality is rugged. The suspension mount is excellent and flexible. And the carrying case is bulletproof.

But what about the sound? It's surprisingly stable between cardioid, hyper-cardioid, and figure of 8. Of course all Omni-directional mics have a sound of their own. And the Omni pattern is a bit more sensitive to position than some. But overall the core sound is quite good.

The only con is the noise floor. Although it is very stable and predictable, which is a good thing. It can easily be removed with noise reduction. It's fine in a mix but won't be my go to mic for sparse mixes, quiet sources, or narration/podcasting. But it is workable in these situations provided you have a good noise reduction plug-in. And the overall tone is nice; not flat or over-hyped. And the small size, great suspension mount, and pickup patterns make it a very flexible mic.
