The SM7b is my go-to microphone for male rock vocals. It does a great job of rejecting off-axis interference, so it's ideal in a low-budget studio where room noise is to be hidden rather than featured.
Additionally, I consider it a huge improvement over an SM57 for guitar amps and snare drums (although, admittedly, I'm not all that crazy about '57s).
CONS: * It needs a lot of gain, so it's only practical on medium-to-loud sources * Some users are turned off that it doesn't capture the breathiness/presence/air for vocals that a nice condenser will

Thriller/BAD and much more! I just got my order in and I must say this is a great mic very warm and thick on hip hop/rock vocals. Its side by side with my 2 U87s/C414s and blue products and holds it own. Different beast but still great sound and great price! Its also great on bass cabs and hi hat!....actually I cant think of anything it doesnt sound good on.
