Avenson Audio IsoDI Direct Box Details
The Avenson Audio IsoDI, building on the circuitry of their famous Small DI, adds two optional isolation stages. The main signal path is still a clean, wide bandwidth transformerless FET amplifier, but the power is generated with an isolated DC to DC converter so that you can have true ground isolation and still run the IsoDI on phantom power.
The IsoOut jack can be a buffered, transformer isolated output to feed amplifiers or other inputs that can compromise the performance of the main signal path if connected in parallel. Now there is a way to get a clean DI signal even when there is bad stage power that causes the amp to buzz from light dimmer hash!
The switchable IsoOut / Parallel jack give you the flexibility to configure the jack as a summed input, a parallel connected output, or a transformer isolated output.
All of this in a rugged palm sized aluminum extrustion that makes it easy to toss into your gig bag or pack into a road case.
Avenson Audio IsoDI Direct Box Features
- Clean Instrument Sound
- The IsoDI has a high input impedance so that it doesn’t load down passive instruments. The main signal path is also transformerless to give the ultimate transparent tone.
- Connect instrument to Input
- Connect XLR to phantom powered preamp input
- Noisy Stage Ground
- Badly wired stages are pretty common. Light dimmer hash and other noises are coming out of the amp before you even plug into it. The IsoDI’s IsoOut feature can keep these noises out of the DI feed.
- Connect instrument to Input
- Connect XLR to phantom powered preamp input
- Connect the amp to the IsoOut Jack
- Push in the IsoOut/Parallel button
- Two Amplifiers
- Setting up a couple of amplifiers in the studio can be a great way to test out different tones, but often just turns into a mess of ground noise. The IsoDI can help by isolating one amp from the other.
- Connect instrument and one amp to the Input with a Y-Cable
- Connect XLR to phantom powered preamp input
- Connect the other amp to the IsoOut Jack
- Push in the IsoOut/Parallel button

What We Think
"I LOVE the Avenson IsoDI. This is a great sounding DI in general, but I love it on acoustic electric guitars in the live environment. As a guest engineer, I always travel to gigs with my own mics and DIs - I'm a bit snobbish like that, I suppose. But I know what everything is supposed to sound like. So, when I took an Avenson IsoDI to a gig, the sound I got over my normally rather nice sounding DI was pretty startling. It isn't a 'hard' sound. It 'gives' with the music and really adds a kind of chimey dimension to the sound. Aside from just the sound, the flexibility to solve problems, along with it's super small footprint, makes this a must have for the gigging musician. It sounds great and is small and light! Nice!"
