The sE Electronics Reflexion Filter Pro Microphone Isolator is the original, patented, portable acoustic treatment device, a very clever and desirable piece of gear that allows you to record vocals, guitars etc. with a drier sound without having to have an acoustically treated room.

The sE Electronics Reflexion Filter Pro Microphone Isolator is designed to change your recording process for the better. Beautiful concert halls, gigantic high-ceilinged spaces, lofty stairwells with glorious natural reverb...capturing the sound of an acoustically-pleasing room can make a great recording truly special. But getting a good sound in a bad space is very, very difficult. What if you're an artist recording at home? What if you don't have the budget for a properly treated studio? What if you move to a new house or apartment? The sE Electronics Reflexion Filter Pro Microphone Isolator gets you covered!

The Technical Bit
The sE Electronics Reflexion Filter Pro has 6 main layers. Firstly, a strong layer of punched Aluminium which allows sound waves to pass through it, diffused, to a layer of absorptive wool. The sound waves then hit a layer of Aluminium foil which helps dissipate energy and break up the lower frequency wave-forms, and from here they hit an air space kept open by rods passing through the various layers. The air gap acts as an acoustic barrier. The sound waves then pass to a further layer of wool and then through an outer, punched, Aluminium wall which further serve to absorb then diffuse the remaining acoustic energy. The main absorber has 4 formed pieces of state-of-the-art specialist acoustic absorptive material attached to its face via the extended separation rods, which further serve to absorb and then diffuse the sound waves as they pass to the main filter. The stand assembly comprises a mic stand clamp fitting, which attaches by means of a vertical joint to the horizontal bar assembly onto which both the sE Electronics Reflexion Filter PRO, and any standard fitting shock mount can be fixed. The microphone (in its shock mount) can then be moved both vertically and horizontally along the bar, and the sE Electronics Reflexion Filter Pro itself can be moved vertically to obtain the optimum working position. Since the sE Electronics invented the Reflexion Filter Pro® in 2006, over 120,000 units have made their way into studios and homes worldwide - and it remains the indisputable industry standard for portable, effective acoustic treatment.

How Does it Work?
When you put a microphone in front of you, it doesn't just hear you - it hears the room around you. Even if it's a cardioid mic and is listening mostly to just you, it's still picking up reflections from your voice or instrument that are bouncing off the walls and coming back to the mic. The goal of acoustic treatment is to minimize the pickup of such reflections so your primary sound source comes through as pure as possible. So why not just put some cardboard or foam behind the mic? Some materials are good at absorbing or reflecting particular frequencies - for example, foam absorbs highs really well, but does nothing for lows. Unlike cheap foam RF imitations, sE's patented multi-layer technology works evenly across the whole frequency spectrum to ensure a balanced, even sound with no coloration at all. This is what makes the sE Electronics Reflexion Filter Pro® unique, and makes it the choice of the biggest recording artists in the world - whether they're working in untreated rooms, or working in a professionally-designed studio and just need a little more isolation. And just like sE Electronics Microphones, each sE Electronics Reflexion Filter Pro is hand-made in their very own factory.

Ultra Stable Hardware
In 2016, sE Electronics completely redesigned the RF Pro's mounting hardware to increase stability, simplify ease of use, and provide an updated level of performance, durability, and aesthetics. It allows panning and tilting for maximum flexibility, and all moving parts are chromatized to ensure low wear. The extra stability means that your sE Electronics RF Pro can be positioned solidly at any angle to help provide a "dry" sound when recording any source - vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, amplifiers, drums, room mics, strings, and countless other instruments.

    Reflexion Filter

I own one and use it in a smaller commercial studio. I didn't want to build a vocal booth as I am not crazy about sticking a vocalist in a closet for hours on end. This did the trick. It isolates the room sound pretty well and you can even vary the amount of room in picks up. It doesn't quite eliminate all of the room sound but you have to really listen hard in quieter passages to hear. Takes some singers a bit to get used to singing in front of it but nothing that can't be overcome. In fact a few eventually preferred it. I don't track vocals without it.

    A Perfect Acoustic Solution

This micscreen really improves your acoustic recordings. I've mostly been recording vocals (but also a little guitar, which dose not not work as well as vocal recordings) with this filter, and it makes your vocals sound more clean, dry and controlled. Depending on the size of the room, it will reduce up to 80 % of all reflections. It's a little expensive, but much more cheaper than to build a sound isolated room - and the quality will be much like the same.

What We Think

The sE Electronics Reflexion Filter PRO is THE real deal. There a re plenty of 'me too' products out there, but they just don't get it right, missing the mark and ruining your tracks. The cheap-copies of the Reflexion Filter PRO zap the high frequency around the microphone (including that from the source being recorded, but do not create adequate-enough of a barrier against the mids and lows in the room. This creates an imbalance that ends up having to be compensated for with an eq boost - and that can add noise and phase shift to your tracks. No good, right? When tracking horns, guitars, vocals, or even a shaker in the same room as drums, it's a an actual barrier that helps to drop the ambient level of the bleed. The plastic and foam 'me-too' products don't do this. As for making sure that you're going to be up and using the sE Electronics Reflexion Filter PRO properly from the start, you need to know that the Reflexion Filter PRO is BIG and HEAVY. So, you need to have a substantial mic stand with a heavy base.
