Steven Slate Drums 4.0 Platinum Edition (Download)

The Steven Slate Drums 4.0 Platinum Edition, from punchy tight rock kits, to fat and sizzly vintage kits, and just about everything in between, Steven Slate Drums 4.0 Platinum is the most complete drum instrument on the planet.

Imagine having 100 of the world's best sounding drumkits at your disposal. From punchy tight rock kits, to fat and sizzly vintage kits, and just about everything in between, Steven Slate Drums 4.0 Platinum is the most complete drum instrument on the planet.

At the heart of Steven Slate Drums 4.0 is the SSD Player, a state of the art Mac/PC (VST, RTAS, AU) Drum Sampler built from the ground up by the award winning development team behind the Slate Digital Trigger drum replacement processor. The SSD Player is extremely easy and intuitive to use. Loading kits, customizing kits, mixing kits, loading and auditioning MIDI grooves, customizing MIDI maps, and routing discretely to your workstation are all a breeze with the SSD Player. It even lets you load your own drum samples to mix in with the Slate drumkits.

100 Kits means that we've got your drum sounds covered. New in 4.0 are dozens of new DELUXE series kits that were recorded with extreme precision, resulting in a remarkably natural playability. In SSD4 Platinum, you'll find Rock, Metal, Vintage, Indie, Funk, and even Jazz/Brushes Deluxe Kits.

SSD4 Platinum also brings back the classic Slate "Mix Ready" kits, but all reprogrammed for better sound, response, and realism. Included in these classic kits are the famous "Signature Kits", which are drumkits modeled after famous sounding artists and albums. Signature Kits include: Steely Dan, Metallica, Dream Theater, Led Zeppelin, Greenday, Nirvana, Pantera, Deftones, AC/DC, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Motley Crue.

SSD4 brings a brand new cymbal pack from Soultone Cymbals. These custom Turkish cymbals are some of the best sounding in the world! From the dark VINTAGE series to the bright and shimmery EXTREME series, these cymbals give the drumkits the ultimate brass accompaniment!

New in SSD4 are five kits in the Urban/Dance/House/Electro genre designed by producer Griffin Boice. These kits are processed with boutique analog gear to provide the fat radio ready sound you'll want for you pop, urban, and dance mixes!

What We Think

I personally believe Steven Slate Drums is the best sample library on the market today. The samples are the best sounding I have heard, and they sit in the mix so well. Not only do you get individual samples to build the kits you want, you have preset kits ready to load and use, and furthermore â?" you can double up on samples to create your own sounds (whether from a preset kit, or in building your own kit). I use Slate Drums exclusively in my Synth Pop band, and it doesnâ??t matter if I perform the drums on my electronic kit, or step sequence the drum patterns, Slate Drums knocks it out of the park every time. In addition to using it for sequencing or controlling it from an electronic kit, throw some acoustic triggers (such as Ddrum with an Alesis Trigger IO) on a kick or snare, and well you are done. Steven Slate Drums, is also by far, the fastest responding samples on the market. I have yet to use a library that has as low latency as Slate Drums. This is one of my favorite tools currently employed in my studio.

I own these and use them.  I own a smaller commercial studio but use them mostly for personal compositions.   They are an absolute great writing tool.  Easy to get great sounding drums up in a hurry.   I've tried several others and found these to be far better.   I prefer live drums in final songs but have used these to supplement on several occasions with great results.   The only issue I have is I wish it was easier to pan.   Doesn't seem to be possible on the mixer section.   It's not really hard but doesn't seem to be as intuitive as it should.  Certainly not a reason to discount these.  They are certainly worth it.

Rockin' drums! June 25, 2010
Reviewer: Lyle from Atlanta, GA United States
I love this set!  I have BFD2 along with the Joe Baressi Evil Drums, Jazz n' Funk, 8Bit Kit expansion packs, which are awesome in their own right, but it takes a lot of work to get those collections as professional sounding as these.  I can quickly get an idea of what the final mix will sound like with SSD3.5.

As much as I love SSD, I have a couple complaints:
I haven't been impressed with the hi-hats.  the detailed nuances of the hi-hat just don't sound very natural to me on V-Drums.  More levels of sounds between open/closed hi-hat positions are needed.  I am hoping the upcoming SSD Deluxe expansion packs improve upon the hats.

My other main complaint is the interface.  I much prefer the slicker BFD2 interface.  I am looking forward to the Steven Slate BFD2 expansion pack (if it ever materializes) since that will give the best of both worlds.

These complaints aside, this is an incredible drum program and a must own for anybody doing music production with acoustic drums!
