Direct Sound EX-29 Extreme Isolation Headphones

The Direct Sound EX-29 Extreme Isolation Headphones were invented by a studio session drummer for drummers, home studios, stage and studio musicians, and anyone who wants serious isolation!

Extreme Isolation Headphones were invented by a studio session drummer for drummers, home studios, stage and studio musicians, and anyone who wants serious isolation! The EX-29 is the perfect headphone for sound & studio engineers and all musicians. The ultra-fidelity high input speakers featuring TruSound Tonal Accuracy technology integrated with 29dB of eco-friendly natural passive isolation are incredibly amazing and will not bleed click tracks or pre-recorded music into live microphones! The EX-29 is the professionals choice!

What makes them so extreme? We use specially designed earmuffs that passively attenuate surrounding sound by 29 decibels which is better than those $300.00 noise canceling headphones or the cheap isolation headphones found in most music stores. They are designed to protect your eardrums from damage and improve your recording and performing! It's about time!

Extremes have a thicker twin lead cable which produces a better sound with crisper highs, better mids and no boomy bass. Still the only isolation headphones on the market that are not bulky and do leak sound during recording like the other brands out there. The most comfortable isolation for an affordable price.

  • For SOUND ENGINEERS to monitor the mixer board during live performances while isolating their ears from main speakers.
  • For STAGE AND STUDIO DRUMMERS who want to hear how drums are being mixed without having head-phones at high volume.
  • Allows STUDIO MUSICIANS to hear only the studio mix during recording - eliminating costly return trips to the control room.
  • For STADIUM AND DOME EVENTS - listen to "LIVE" broadcasts at medium volume and block out most stadium noise while watching the game.
  • For NASCAR SCANNERS - by using an inexpensive stereo to mono plug, you can plug into your scanner and have the best isolation available to monitor the pit crews and driver.

What We Think - Direct Sound EX-29 Review

The Direct Sound EX-29s are a must have for studios. I don't care if it is a home studio or a pro studio, there should be a pair of EX-29s around for drummers. 29dB of isolation is a very big deal. Being able to listen to the click and cue mix at a reasonable volume, that will not harm your hearing, and not have your drums over powering the playback, is great. And if anyone mishandles them and the headband needs replacing, just get a new one - you can swap that yourself, for minimal downtime! I have not tracked drums (even electronic drums) without them, ever since I got my pair - and I will not track drums without them again. It would be worth owning a couple pairs for practice, or writing sessions. Just get a good headphone amp, and you are set. I have tried a lot of Isolation headphones, and nothing performs as well. Direct sound simply knocked it out the park with this one.

Job accomplished! February 27, 2015

I record my own drums in my one room home studio and I use both an E kit and Acoustic drums, so getting drum sounds can be tricky when all you can hear either the pads from the E kit or the acoustic kit over the cue mix. The direct sound EX-29 extreme isolation Headphones got the job done, they also are very durable and serviceable being modular making them easy to repair if needed! Highly Recomend.

Incredible headphones at a great price! May 15, 2013

We had tried several methods to eliminate click bleed, not all were acceptable to the artists. Front End Audio alerted us to their exclusive sale of Direct Sound products so the EX-29's didn't cost us an arm and a leg. Both do an amazing job! Highly recommended.

My workhorse set of headphones! February 15, 2013
Reviewer: Dan Slavin from Cottonwood, CA United States
These are the olny way to track drums in my opinion, the 29 db of isolation is so vital for me, it allows me to hear the quiter parts of my recordings, and really focus in on how I need to play. The speakers inside the phones are pretty great quality, they're clear, very low noise, and really accurate and full sounding for your mixes. Build quality is great, these are sturdy and comfortable at the same time, fully size adjustable, and nice foam cushions that allow for extended use when tracking all night. I'll be getting some new pairs of these soon,I suggest you do the same, they're a really great solution for hearing yourself much better!

Cuts down noise November 19, 2012
Reviewer: Aaron Featherstone from Minneapolis, MN United States
I bought these with the intention of being able to accurately hear what I'm recording without the bleed of an amp or drums coming through. It does an excellent job of that along with keeping the click track from bleeding into the mic. I gave it 5 stars because it has done what I wanted it to do. Whether they are the most accurate... Well, I'm not sure. They seem a little bass heavy but I'm only using them for tracking so I don't care.

simply the best November 1, 2012

The tonal accuracy and depth allow for better tracking at decent volumes.
Compared with other headphones you really can say there is no bleed. They have comfort and clarity for understanding nuances of vocal and instrument execution. One only detail.... I would have love them to have a volume controller in the cable.

Of course, it would have made them prone to failure so.... no complains, just a wet dream.
