Avantone MONDO Kick Drum Microphone

Avantone Mondo Kick Drum Microphone

Avantone MONDO Kick Drum Microphone Details

This is the 2nd generation Avantone MONDO kick drum microphone and a great deal of R&D effort has culminated in this rugged, great sounding mic. Avantone believes this mic represents the very finest kick drum microphone available, both for live clubs & concerts, as well as serious studio recording projects.

The Avantone MONDO kick drum offers a very aggressive frequency contour that sounds huge right out of the box, so most engineers will find little need for EQ. Each Avantone MONDO kick drum mic is die cast from zinc, with a brass and steel grill assembly. As with all of Avantone's mics, there is no plastic to break! Aesthetically, each mic features an elegant Cabernet Wine-Red finish, accented with polished nickel trim and a black grill assembly. All components are designed and manufactured using the finest materials yielding a very solid feel, superb structural integrity and rugged reliability.

The Avantone MONDO features internal shockmounting on the capsule assembly to prevent the transmission of unwanted "rumble" from physical vibrations.

A unique feature of all of Avantone's drum mics is pair of machined insets on the barrel of the microphone body. These insets allow the O-rings of the SSM shockmount to "lock" the mic into place, which prevents mic shifting and slippage.

The included SSM shock mount is as rugged as you can find and allows for a superb decoupling of the mics from unwanted low-frequency transfer and rumble. This feature results in a much tighter, less muddy sound than other brands of drum mics. The O-rings are manufactured using a custom formula. The new world class Ethylene Propylene formula provides enormous resistance to breakage, resistance to surface nicks and remains supple and effective even against dry, hot temperatures. It is resistant to ozone and weathering, which makes it great for use around electronics devices, and maintains its physical properties even in a stretched condition. Each SSM is constructed of heavy-duty die-cast zinc, which is not only incredibly durable but also adds mass, which contributes to vibration dampening/decoupling.

The entire package is rounded out with a rugged custom-molded and padded case to safely store and transport your Avantone mic. The Avantone MONDO kick drum mic, SSM shockmount, and included carrying case are each inspected, tested, and carefully packed in California.

Kind of scary how polished this sounds September 24, 2015

It is just a mic, but it sounds like a fully mixed kick track.  You might have to dial it DOWN a bit for jazz or lighter stuff.  It sounds very slick.  Very good mic as you would expect from Avantone.

Does what i want it to May 8, 2007

I recently bought this mic as part of a seven piece set.  I dont have to use the other mics much at smaller venues but I always use this one.  I play a large djembe with a kick pedal, so i can't testify to it's abilities on standard 22" drum, but it's presence with the djembe is HUGE.  i'd bet that the djembe frequencies are lower than those of a kick drum and this mic has no problem reproducing them.  i can't really speak of the attack frequencies though because they dont come through acoustically on my drum.  but beware, despite the best efforts to make it seem like a homegrown company on the company website, these mics are MADE IN CHINA, and i am always skeptical of any company that does that.
