SPL Crimson 2 USB Audio Interface and Monitor Controller

The SPL Crimson leaps forward to set a new sound quality benchmark in its price range. With the Crimson you have a boutique device at a fraction of the price we used to know from traditional engineering and manufacturing.

The SPL Crimson combines an audio interface with high-quality preamps and a fully-featured monitor controller. You can play and play back, record and convert, control and listen with one single device. So all you essentially need for a professional recording start-up is the Crimson and a DAW.

Crimson is designed to operate with your Digital Audio Workstation. But you can also do a lot with it as a stand-alone device: plug in an instrument and play. Connect a microphone and sing along. Mix your own monitor signal with playback or guide tracks from any source including your smartphone. What you are playing is not bad? Turn on the DAW and record it.

Heavy duty build, clear sound, nice layout December 16, 2014
Reviewer: Morgan Roberts from San Jose, CA United States
The Crimson is built like a tank, it's heavy duty construction gives it a great feel.  Even more important the sound is clear and clean, best I've had to date (I've used mostly MOTU devices in the past).

The layout is nice, although I wish I could get it to run in "stealth" mode without so many of the push button lights.

Note the input latency is extremely low (2ms) but the output latency is much higher (10ms) with ASIO.  For comparison my old MOTU 2408 was 6ms in and 6ms out, so the total round trip is the same.

I get an occasional screech, glitch, or audio artifact that I have not yet figured out.  I'm not sure if there is a conflict with another USB device or not, so I will be re-installing Windows 8.1 from scratch to see if I can resolve it.

Very solid. Built like a tank. I was a little underwhelmed by the sound quality coming out. unstable in windows 7, PT10. also difficult to find info on the web and customer support hasn't answered any of my emails
