Peluso R14 Ribbon Microphone

The Peluso R14 Ribbon Microphone, a mic designed after classic ribbons, with natural, rich, and silky sound.

Peluso R14 Ribbon Microphone Details

The Peluso R14 Ribbon Microphone is a passive ribbon microphone. The R14 employs a thin corrugated aluminum ribbon tensioned between two rare earth neodymium magnets. It uses the long-ribbon geometry of classic ribbon microphones of the 1930s. The R14 sound is rich, warm, and silky smooth with generous low end, and is known to take EQ very nicely. The natural sound of the R14 Ribbon Microphone is the perfect complement to the condensers in your microphone collection. Remember never blow into a ribbon microphone! The microphone comes as a complete system including: R14 Microphone in a Wood Box, and a Shock Mount.

What We Think - Peluso R14 Review

"The R14 is a fat sounding ribbon for sure. The low end and lower midrange response on this mic will make a floor tom sing, guitar cab thunder, or acoustic guitar bellow! Tuned to accent the lower ranges, the R14 takes hi end shelving boosts very well to bring more balance to the sound when needed. Smooth mids take the edge off of just about anything!"

recently i spent a lot of time recording vocals/acoustic guitar with it. the sound is smooth. at first i was reluctant to record vocals because of proximity effect, but by positioning the mic so i am singing up front & close but just below the capsule, while the mic is facing downard picking up the acoustic guitar, i was able to get a very nice mono recording of voice/acoustic guitar. the balance is just right for my taste. now i am using it as a vocal stand alone mic, up close, but making sure my mouth is just below the capsule, otherwise my breath and vocal traits cause too much pops, even with a pop screen. on instruments it is superb. depending on which mic pre you use, you can even get away w/40 db (that is with using my Origin STT-1) or i've had good success using it with the Cloud ribbon mic booster (which supplys 20db gain) going into a Groove Tubes Brick cranked to full volume. i've also used it with a Speck Mic Pre 5.0, & a Chandler TGII cranked to 60 db all with good results
